VITALCARE WELLNESS TIPS … Because mental health is part of overall wellness — and sometimes a winter storm gives us an unexpected chance to be more intentional about our time.
If the power goes out, the screens go quiet… and suddenly we get a rare little pocket of time to actually be together. So we put together a few easy, low-tech ideas to help turn a storm day into something cozy, calm, and maybe even memorable. Consider these your gentle :
💙 Build a blanket fort or set up the camping tent.
Turn your living room into a cozy “camp-in.” Add flashlights and call it an indoor adventure. Bonus: it keeps everyone warm and creates the kind of together-time kids remember.
❤️ Bring out the classics.
Board games and card games — Uno, Go Fish, Guess Who, or a simple deck of cards. No batteries. No screens. Just faces, laughter, and a little friendly competition.
🩷 Draw, color, or write stories together.
This is the perfect time to start that “family storybook” you’ve probably imagined for years — or just sit side by side and create something together.
💛 Play a story game.
One person starts a story, everyone adds one sentence. Add shadow puppets if you’re feeling dramatic. The sillier it gets, the better the memory.
🧡 Lean into the cozy moments.
Soup, hot chocolate, tea by candlelight or “campfire” can turn a storm into something memorable. After all, the forecast says this might be “a storm we never forget.”
Stay warm. Stay safe. And enjoy the togetherness.
