For any of you battling reoccurring KIDNEY STONES….ask Dr K about biofilm busters.
Great study here.

🚨 A major new study in PNAS has turned our understanding of kidney stones upside down.

Calcium oxalate stones, the type that make up over 70% of all cases, are not just lifeless mineral crystals.

Researchers have proven they are biocomposites with bacterial biofilms layered right into the stone itself.

Even in people with no urinary tract infections and stones labeled as “noninfectious,” powerful microscopy revealed biofilms intercalated between crystal layers.

These bacterial communities (including their DNA) act as built-in nucleation sites, helping crystals form and grow faster than we ever realized.

This means bacteria are an intrinsic part of how most kidney stones develop, not just an occasional complication.

If you or someone you love has suffered through kidney stone pain, this discovery could finally lead to smarter prevention and treatments that target the hidden biofilms and bacteria directly.

“Perimenopause didn’t ‘change my mood’. It changed my immune settings.” 🩸🧠
If your “allergies” and flares started acting possessed in your late 30s/40s, I need you to hear this: mast cells listen to hormones.

The evidence: Estradiol can activate mast cells and amplify mediator release (histamine, leukotrienes). Progesterone can act like a brake, reducing mast-cell secretion.

So what happens in perimenopause?
Progesterone often drops first, and estrogen can swing. Translation: fewer brakes, more surges. For some bodies, that looks like flushing, hives, migraine, gut chaos, insomnia, palpitations, “period flu”, and nervous-system flare-ups that get dismissed as anxiety.

The key point: this does not prove “it’s all hormones.” It shows hormones can turn up the volume on mast-cell mediator symptoms in people who are already sensitised.

The clinical conversation worth having: If you’re entering perimenopause and your MCAS-style symptoms are escalating, ask a menopause clinician or allergist whether stabilising hormonal swings is relevant for you. HRT can be life-changing for some, but it must be individualised because estrogen can worsen symptoms in certain people.

👇 Did your flares change with ovulation, your period, pregnancy, postpartum, or perimenopause? What pattern did you notice?

Wellness and nervous system regulation can absolutely be fancy— biohacking gadgets like vagal nerve stimulators, peptides, supplements. And hey, I love them too; I’ve seen them work wonders for people chasing peak performance. But the truth is, I recommend these free nervous system regulators to my telehealth patients just as often—like solid sleep routines, gentle walks in nature, or even breathing through a tough day without spiraling.

Those aren’t glamorous, but they’re essential game-changers for keeping your nervous system regulated and calm. Sometimes, chasing the perfect protocol or the next thing to buy or consume or try means missing out on just being consistent with the simple stuff that’s already right there. Consistency is the ultimate biohack.

Have you ever noticed how two people given the same diagnosis of “depression” can respond completely differently to treatment?
Often, the difference isn’t psychological at all — it’s biochemical.

In The Serotonin Connection (Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, 1996), Dr. Robert Nash, MD outlined a clear distinction using what he called the Serotonin Index, separating serotonin-dominant patterns from norepinephrine-dominant patterns.

🧠 Low Serotonin Patterns
• Repetitive or obsessive thinking
• Compulsive behaviors and perfectionism
• Disrupted sleep and morning exhaustion
• Chronic pain syndromes, fibromyalgia, tension headaches
• Addictive tendencies or constant overworking
• Symptoms worsen with stress, caffeine, or missed meals

💥 Low Norepinephrine Patterns
• Genuine anxiety or panic states
• Low energy, poor drive, lack of motivation
• Lightheadedness or vague headaches (often with age)
• Poor concentration and emotional dullness
• Symptoms often improve with movement or stimulation

Low serotonin often presents as overcontrol, rigidity, and burnout.
Low norepinephrine presents as background anxiety, weakness, and collapse.

The Nash Index describes these systems as a biological see-saw — when one side drops, the other compensates.
Orthomolecular medicine focuses on restoring balance rather than suppressing symptoms.

🌿 Orthomolecular strategies may include
• Vitamin B3 and Vitamin C to support serotonin pathways
• Magnesium and B6 for neurotransmitter regulation
• Omega-3 fatty acids for neuronal signaling
• Adaptogenic support for stress and catecholamine balance

This framework allows neurotransmitter imbalances to be identified, measured, and corrected through targeted nutrient therapy.

A research team from the University of São Paulo published a paper titled “Methylene blue photodynamic therapy induces selective and massive cell death in human breast cancer cells” in BMC Cancer in 2017, showing that methylene blue becomes highly cytotoxic to breast-cancer cells when activated by 640-nm light. In their in-vitro experiments, breast-cancer cell lines were treated with methylene blue and then irradiated at 640 nm (4.5 J/cm²), which caused extensive destruction of cancer cells while normal breast epithelial cells were far less affected under the same conditions.

The investigators found that this therapy did not rely on classical apoptosis; instead, it disrupted intracellular organelles, interfered with autophagy pathways, and triggered a rapid, overwhelming form of cell death to which cancer cells were uniquely vulnerable.

Although the findings reveal a strongly selective anti-cancer mechanism, the work remains limited to laboratory cell-culture models, meaning further studies in animals and humans are required before any clinical application can be considered.
