🥗💧 DIET & FLUID RESTRICTIONS — VERY IMPORTANT
During severe weather and possible treatment delays, it is critical for dialysis patients to closely follow their renal diet and fluid limits to prevent complications.
✔️ Limit Fluids
• Stick to your prescribed daily fluid allowance.
• Use small cups, sip slowly, and avoid salty foods that increase thirst.
✔️ Follow Renal Diet Guidelines
• Low sodium (salt): Avoid canned, processed, fast food, chips, and salty snacks.
• Low potassium: Limit bananas, oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, avocado, and dark leafy greens.
• Low phosphorus: Limit dairy, nuts, beans, cola drinks, and processed foods with additives.
✔️ Choose Safer Options
• Fresh or frozen vegetables (low-potassium choices)
• White rice, pasta, bread
• Lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish)
• Apples, grapes, berries, pineapple
✔️ Do NOT Skip Medications
• Continue taking binders and prescribed medications as directed.
Following diet and fluid restrictions can help prevent fluid overload, breathing problems, and dangerous electrolyte levels if weather conditions impact treatment schedules.
