Fragrance, often labeled simply as “fragrance” or “parfum,” including perfume, cologne, scented candles, aftershave, deodorant, laundry detergent, and soooo much more, can contain numerous hidden chemicals. These chemicals are linked to various health risks, including:
•Allergies and Sensitivities: Many people experience allergic reactions, skin irritations, or respiratory issues from exposure to synthetic fragrances.
•Hormone Disruption: Chemicals like phthalates, commonly found in fragrances, can interfere with the endocrine system, potentially leading to reproductive harm and developmental issues.
•Carcinogenic Properties: Some fragrance ingredients are classified as carcinogens, posing long-term health risks.
•Environmental Concerns
Fragrance chemicals can also harm the environment. When washed off, they enter water systems, affecting aquatic life and disrupting hormonal systems in organisms. Additionally, these chemicals can leach into soil, impacting plant growth and wildlife.
•Lack of Transparency
The fragrance industry often keeps ingredient lists secret due to trade secret protections. This lack of transparency prevents consumers from knowing what they are exposed to, making it difficult to avoid harmful substances.
That’s why we ask all our clients to refrain from wearing anything scented, on their person as well as on their clothing. Our staff adheres to this rule as well.
Tips: opt for fragrance-free products for yourself and your home. Use pure essential oils as perfume, or in diffusers to add scent to your home. And don’t be afraid to rock your natural scent & let those pheromones shine.
