When Parents die 💔, nothing is the same anymore. We can no longer be children, we will no longer feel carried away by their hugs, kisses and words of encouragement. It seems like life is getting harder because their protective love is no longer there. When parents are no longer with us, we are orphans and that is hard regardlss of age. Even though you created your family, the face of your parents is ingrained in you for eternity. All people, even if we are adults, have this living child inside us who wants to be protected all the time by his parents. Turning to their unconditional love whenever necesary, but when they are gone, that option is no longer possible...!!! 😭

Our commitment is to provide a tranquil place for our client families who come to our cemeteries to pay respect to their loved ones. Over time, items that have been left behind have encroached on the final resting places of other people and present a safety issue for our grounds crews. No personal mementoes were discarded; they have been collected and saved for families to pick up behind the mausoleum. Per our policy, trinkets that are left behind should be able to fit in vases at a loved one’s location of internment out of respect for the more than 7,000 people whose final resting place is Southern Heritage Cemetery.

Our History

Established in 1986 by Birmingham’s prominent Lackey family, Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Southern Heritage Cemetery are sister locations that serve about 400 families each year. Southern Heritage Funeral Home is the only funeral home in the city of Pelham, and we aim to help you honor and celebrate your loved one like no one else can.

Funeral Home Amenities

At 18,000 square feet, Southern Heritage Funeral Home is among the larger funeral homes in Alabama. We accommodate services and gatherings of all sizes. Our beautiful Colonial-style building includes a chapel that comfortably seats up to 200 and a celebration room suitable for big family gatherings and catered receptions.

Not only are we a newer funeral home, but a 2011 update gave our spaces a fresh, modern look. What's more, our chapel and parlors have large flat-screen televisions for slideshows and multimedia tributes—which we are happy to create for you.
