Huge thanks to Dave's Pizza in Homewood for taking care of our pets and our people as we prepare for hazardous winter weather. With freezing temperatures ahead, our shelters are working around the clock to keep animals safe, warm, and comfortable.

⚠️ Please remember to bring pets indoors during extreme cold.

⚠️ WINTER WEATHER PET SAFETY PSA ⚠️
With freezing temperatures and possible winter weather ahead, pets should not be left outside. Please bring pets indoors or into a garage—our animals are not acclimated to prolonged cold and icy conditions.

Our teams are preparing for potential power outages, and staff will be staying overnight to keep animals safe. During this time, we are urgently in need of blankets to help keep shelter pets warm.

🧣 Help us help them:
Donate blankets, shop our Amazon Wishlist: https://ow.ly/IZ8P50Y0nAB
Or support our Winter Weather Emergency Fund: https://ow.ly/Fich50Y0nAC

Thank you for looking out for pets in our community. ❤️🐾

Happy update on Tinsel 💛

Tinsel is healing and thriving with her foster family, and this is exactly why fostering matters. Dogs in foster homes are up to five times more likely to be adopted because they can heal, relax, and show their true personalities.

Fostering is one of the most impactful and rewarding ways to help a shelter pet. Stay tuned for more updates on Tinsel as she continues her journey.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Johnathan Boley.

Due to a high volume of calls, messages, and social media posts, GBHS is issuing this statement to clearly and unequivocally correct misinformation currently circulating:

Buck, Johnathan Boley’s pet dog, is NOT in the custody of Walker County Animal Services and is NOT at any GBHS shelter or facility.

All verified information regarding the case and Buck’s status will come directly from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office or other official law enforcement sources.

As a community partner and animal welfare organization, we understand the public’s concern for animals involved in traumatic events.

We respectfully ask the public to help stop the spread of misinformation and to keep the focus where it belongs — on compassion for the Boley family and respect for the investigative process.

Your donation gives dogs like Tinsel get a second chance.

Tinsel came to us after enduring unimaginable cruelty. Thanks to your generosity, she is safe, healing, and surrounded by care instead of violence. She still has a journey ahead, but today she knows warmth, comfort, and love.

This past year tested our shelter, our staff, and our resources in ways we could never have predicted. Through it all, you showed up for animals like Tinsel when they needed you most.

As we enter the new year, we are deeply grateful. Your support allows us to keep saying yes to the animals who have nowhere else to turn.

Thank you for standing with us. If you’re able, please consider making a gift to help us continue this lifesaving work.
