Just wanted to brag about how awesome our Cultivate family is! We have had the best time these past couple weeks celebrating the cutest mama-to-be. We want to thank you all for the support, advice, and sweet messages. This is Dr. Miranda’s last week adjusting before maternity leave and we are soaking up every second! 🫶🏼

Sleep is so important for overall health + wellness! While we are sleeping our body is able to rest & repair. Our body repairs damaged tissues from the day, boosts our immune system, regulates inflammation, and releases hormones that improves mental health all while we are getting some shut eye! 😴

This is why we notice an overall decline in our own wellness when we aren’t getting enough good quality sleep. We notice we can’t focus as well, our moods are unpredictable, and our body feels stiff. Sleep and healing go hand in had!

If you struggle to fall asleep at night or even just to stay asleep, did you know the root cause of your struggles could be a dysregulated nervous system? As stress bogs down the nervous system, we can get stuck in fight or flight/ on the gas pedal. Where we find it difficult to slow down, and rest.

Chiropractic care works by removing stress from the nervous system, and bringing us off the gas pedal. This allows our body to shift to a place of resting, digesting, & healing. The magic happens here. Where your brain starts to slow down, and you aren’t kept up with a busy brain that won’t shut off.

⏰It’s time to change our clocks again! ⏰

This weekend we get to set our clocks back an hour, and with that we have to adjust to a whole new routine. Here’s some ways to make the transition easier!

1. Get outside! Especially early in the morning, following the time change will help reset your internal clock to the new time.
2. Maintain your sleep schedule! Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep before and after time change.
3. Shift your bedtime! Start shifting your bedtime by 15-20 minutes a few nights before time change.
4. Adjust meal times! Change your mealtimes to adjust to the new times.
5. Exercise! Move your body every day. Exercise releases endorphins which help improve moods, helps cope better with stress, and improves sleep.
6. Seek out natural light. Our circadian rhythm naturally shifts with exposure to sunlight. So spend time outside without sunglasses to get the full benefits!

Hopefully these tips help! If you do find yourself dragging after the clocks go backwards this weekend, give yourself a little grace. It’s a lot for our bodies to adapt to! ☺️

Hey parents, how did conferences go this year?

For some parents, conferences are a fun time to go and hear how amazing your child is doing, and all of the success they are already having this school year.

For others, conferences can give you a sense of dread. Maybe you have already been getting emails or phone calls home, and know that your child is struggling. You know the conversation about them not being able to focus or falling behind is coming. You are about to hear about how your child is struggling to regulate their emotions or are hurting their friends or even their teachers.

Or maybe you are in the other boat and you were shocked to hear how well your child is doing at school, because things have been rough at home.

We want you to know that if your child is struggling in any way there are options.

The cheapest but often hardest to implement is less screen time at home, cut dyes out of foods, and tighter boundaries especially surrounding rest. I already know what you are thinking- easier said than done. So we have more.

Seek out services to help them. Whether it be OT for primitive reflexes and challenges in their body, therapy for emotional struggles, tutoring or help with school so they feel supported, and the list can go on.

And of course our favorite, supporting their nervous system and brain through chiropractic care. Both Dr. Miranda and Dr. Katelyn had their own challenges with anxiety, and neurodevelopmental struggles, and success stories with chiropractic. It’s why we are obsessed with helping kids just like yours.

As the temps get cooler, we tend to see a lot more illness as we adjust to less sunlight, busier schedules, and less time outside!

Here’s some natural ways to boost your immune system!

1. Adequate sleep & rest
2. Vitamin C rich foods
3. Get movement in your day
4. Get adjusted
5. Manage stress
6. Stay hydrated

We get that life gets busy! But, these small changes will make a huge impact in your overall wellness. Plus, making time for your health is never a waste of time. ☺️💛

Did you know that chiropractic has impacts on the immune system in two big ways?

First studies have shown an immediate increase in immunoglobulins and antibodies following an adjustment. This is exactly why we don’t recommend skipping an adjustment when you are sick.

Second, by improving the nervous system’s ability to adapt to stress over time it improves the function of the immune system long term.

Let’s talk about babies and head shape for a minute!

Plagiocephaly is when an infant develops a flat spot/misshapen head. We see this often in our office & are here to help!

Risk factors include:
⁃ birth trauma
⁃ torticollis/ stuck to one side
⁃ constriction in utero
⁃ too much time laying on their back
⁃ a lot of baby container use

Tips to avoid plagiocephaly
1. Consistent chiropractic care for mom during pregnancy to help reduce in utero constriction. As well as consistent chiropractic care after birth will address misalignments in their body allowing for improved brain- body connection and overall bodily function. A lot of pediatric chiropractors also specialize in cranial work to work specifically with cranial misalignments!
2. Tummy time has so many benefits! In this scenario it keeps weight off the developing skull, and works to strengthen neck muscles.
3. Limiting time in containers will help to reduce repetitive postural stressor on the baby’s head.
4. Baby wearing is wonderful for bonding as well as reducing time on their back.
5. Switching sides while feeding helps to develop muscles evenly on each side, as well as for cognitive development.

If your baby does develop a flat spot, please remember it doesn’t mean you did something wrong! Some babies are more prone to it! But Pediatric chiropractors are here to help!
