Judith Roberts, Ph.D., LMHC

Judith Roberts, Ph.D., LMHC Dr. Roberts is a psychotherapist, author and State Approved Supervisor who maintains a private practice in Pembroke Pines, Florida. There is a difference.

She provides services throughout Florida to include individual therapy, premarital counseling, and couples/marital therapy. Life is unpredictable, isn't it? We just never know what's coming our way, and while we may feel confident in our ability to navigate those unexpected moments, there are times we just do not. Our coping strategies seem to fail us; we feel defeated. We have all experienced those moments. Sometimes we are able to bounce back. But, if you are really struggling with feeling overwhelmed, constantly stressed and maybe anxious, and/or depressed, reach out for help. Know that it’s okay to ask for help. Attending to your mental health does NOT mean you have a mental illness. Seeking help to better manage life's stressors is simply that - getting help during that challenging period - getting help to identify more effective and appropriate coping strategies, and gaining all the benefits therapy has to offer:)

Dr. Roberts primarily utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, with a particular interest in evidence-based counseling approaches that merge traditional cognitive behavioral science with mindfulness-based disciplines such as Solution-Focused Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. She also uses Gottman Couples Therapy and Systemic Therapies when working with couples and families. Her specialties include:
Mood Disorders
Anxiety Disorders
Anger Management
Stress Management
Self-esteem/Self-confidence issues
Relationship issues
Conflict Resolution
Grief and Loss
Couples/marital issues

"What the world needs now is love sweet love,
It*s the only thing that there's just too little of.
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
no not just for some but for everyone."

Kindness matters! and it is always possible to extend kindness to everyone we meet.

Let us not forget that people do not wear signs expressing how they are truly feeling, and they may not even verbalize it....thinking, why bother? no one really cares.
We ask "how are you?" but, do we take the time to stop and wait for a real answer? do we care to hear the real answer, or do we just move on?

People are carrying heavy loads. We all face challenges in life, and for some, it may be extremely difficult to navigate. Take the time to offer a gentle word, a smile, a phone call to check on a friend you haven't seen in a while, take a meal to an elderly in your neighborhood...there are so many opportunities to spread kindness.

Maybe you are carrying that heavy load. Reach out to someone - help is always available. Make your mental health a priority.

Journaling is an effective way to manage your mental health.

Our lives are centered around relationships and how we interact with each other. Our approach is therefore pivotal. Likewise, how we deal with (react or respond) difficult situations is equally important.

How often have you said something only to regret it later?
Do you ask yourself what led to that reaction?
Maybe it was during a conversation in which you felt the speaker was being critical of you. The situation triggered an emotional response – you became defensive, disappointed, annoyed, even angry. You stage a counterattack.
Your reaction is immediate, reciprocal or in opposition to a person or situation.

But what if you PAUSE, and take the time to recognize if a response is needed.

Check out my blog to learn more about the difference between reacting and responding, and how to:

It's that time of year again - another school year has begun!

Wishing everyone a safe and successful school year, filled with new faces, new lessons and new experiences.

Students: (*parents, please do remind your child(ren))
-be brave, be curious, be confident, be kind, and most importantly, be you! Your uniqueness is your strength; your imperfections, your passions, your dreams - that is what makes you special. You weren't made to blend in - so this year, shine! Shine brightly for all to see. Be the one to lift others up, to extend kindness to everyone you meet, to speak, and listen, with empathy and care.

There is so much going on in our world today that it can be overwhelming, exhausting, anxiety-provoking, depressive, and frightening. And, we can feel helpless too! We experience so many emotions!
It is an overload of information - overstimulation!

What can you do? It's a question I hear from my friends and clients.
We must learn to set healthy boundaries and here is an opportunity to do just that.

Disconnect.

Be intentional about turning off your phone. Stop scrolling for a few hours (you set the time frame), or for a day.

Silence the noise - it's your choice.

This weekend, commit to disconnect.
