The Readathon’s coming, it’s almost that time,
To read to our babies with rhythm and rhyme!

It’s our 6th year and we’re proud to say,
We made top 30 in the USA!

This year’s theme is Dr. Seuss....how FUN!
But our stack of books is nearly NONE.

So help us bring joy with each look and each hook. Please help us by donating a book! ❤️📚

There's a convenient drop-off bin right by the main entrance of Memorial Hospital Miramar for your donated books. And remember, Readathon is on Thursday (9/11/25)!

Thousands of Florida Blue members have lost in-network access to the trusted care Memorial provides.

While Florida Blue continues to raise premiums, their proposals do not reflect the cost of providing high-quality, expert services.

We remain committed to our community – delivering lifesaving, complex care our patients depend on, through the providers they know and trust.

If you're a Florida Blue member, call the number on the back of your insurance card and tell them how important it is to bring Memorial back in-network.

Your voice matters. Your care matters.

Pickleball is surging in popularity, and so are the injuries.

Florida now leads the nation in pickleball courts, with more than 1,200 locations across the state. But health experts, including Dr. Geden Franck from Memorial Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Center, are raising red flags about a sharp rise in fractures, sprains, and even heart concerns.

📺 Thanks to Najahe Sherman and CBS Miami for spotlighting the trend and speaking with Dr. Franck.

Having a will is about more than passing along your belongings, it’s about creating a legacy of love.

A will protects your assets, safeguards your family, and clearly documents your wishes. More importantly, it ensures the people and causes you care most deeply about are provided for in the manner you intend.

This August, during National Make a Will Month, consider leaving a meaningful gift to Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundations. Help patients and families continue to receive exceptional care for generations to come.

Did you know stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States?

Dr. Brijesh P Mehta, Medical Director of Adult & Pediatric NeuroInterventional Surgery and the Comprehensive Stroke Program at Memorial Neuroscience Institute, recently visited Capitol Hill for a "Day on the Hill" to support national efforts aimed at improving stroke care. 🏥

Along with fellow advocates from the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN), Dr. Mehta met with a bipartisan group of senators from over 20 states to highlight the need for standardized EMS education on stroke. Large vessel occlusion (LVO) strokes are due to blockage of major blood vessels in the brain and cause severe longterm disability. Endovascular thrombectomy is the most effective scientifically proven treatment of LVO strokes. Recognition of LVO strokes by paramedics, implementation of EMS triage routing protocols to thrombectomy-capable hospitals, and increased investment in prehospital stroke education are critical for better patient outcomes.

Stroke-related costs in the U.S. have reached $56.2 billion annually, underscoring the urgent need for more efficient and coordinated care systems.

Thank you, Dr. Mehta, for your leadership and dedication to advancing stroke care nationwide. 💙

Heat-related illness is on the rise in South Florida, and student athletes are among the most at risk. ☀️

"The most important thing is to identify heat-related illness early to prevent it from progressing to heat stroke, which is very deadly if untreated." — Dr. Eric Bassan, Assistant Medical Director & Emergency Physician at Memorial Regional Hospital

Thank you to Roxanne Vargas and NBC 6 for helping us spread this important message. 📺

As temperatures remain high during the transition from summer into fall sports season, it’s important to know the warning signs and prevention strategies. Earlier this month we held our 7th annual White Coat Ceremony, an event that signifies residents hard work as medical students, dedication to their new residency or fellowship, and preparation for their ongoing training. During our ceremony each resident is presented with a white coat, symbolizing their entry into the medical field.🩺

Congratulations and THANK YOU to the Memorial Healthcare System and DiMaggio Children's Hospital residents and fellows who continue to and pave the way towards a healthier and brighter future ahead!

Drop a 💙 to congratulate this incredible group and wish them success as they begin the next chapter of their journey in medicine!

Coming at you with a "Comments We Love!" 📝

Hailey recently shared how proud she is to see Memorial Healthcare System and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital continue to grow, and we couldn’t agree more!

Thanks to incredible community members like Hailey, we’re inspired every day to keep moving forward and building the future of healthcare.

A $670 million Surgical and Patient Bed Tower is on the way, marking the most transformative expansion in Memorial Regional Hospital’s history.

Here’s what’s coming:
✅ 150 acuity-adaptable patient beds
✅ 21 state-of-the-art operating rooms (including a hybrid OR)
✅ Expanded prep and recovery bays, growing from 37 to 58
✅ A new sterile processing department to support surgical care
✅ A redesigned main lobby and improved traffic flow
✅ A new CT suite and satellite pharmacy

Interim CEO Shane Strum says this project will help deliver advanced surgical services while enhancing the patient and family experience in a modern and healing environment.

Construction will take place in two phases and is expected to be completed by 2031. Memorial will remain fully operational throughout the process.

Thank you to all our community members for your continued support. We’re proud to grow with you! 💙
