✨What are self care skills ?
Include a variety of activities including dressing, feeding, bathing, toileting and dental hygiene!

✨Self care skills are defined as everyday tasks undertaken so children are ready to participate in life activities (including dressing, eating, cleaning teeth). They are often referred to as the activities of daily living (ADLs)

✨Self care skills for toddlers can look like self feeding with utensils, picking out clothes and putting them on, applying tooth paste and brushing teeth, using a washcloth to bathe body and wash hair, using the toilet by themselves, help prep a snack or meal etc.

✨Self care skills for babies can look like holding tooth brush or hair brush, bringing bottle to mouth and holding it, or taking off some items of clothing’s like socks etc.

✨ Self care skills and independence go hand in hand. As we get older and refine gross and fine motor skills/coordination the more independent we become in our activities of daily living.

Need help deciding on what kind of toy to buy for your child?
Consider these qualities before you buy a toy 👇

• does it inspire ACTIVE play? Is your child engaged with a PURPOSE? Is there something they need to actively do to receive input (push, pull, build etc) as opposed just instant gratification.

• can it target more than one skill or grow with your child? Or is it solely for one use/ one age that can’t be modified or adjusted to meet your child’s needs?

• is it overwhelming ? A lot of lights/ sounds / movement with no educational or skill related purpose ?

• is it challenging with out frustrating your child? This is part of a “just right challenge” to encourage learning- while providing a safe space to motivate to continue.

Hope these guidelines help you on your next purchase for summer ✨
