Yesterday for Senate Bill 663 we had a great crew of advocates, including sisters from Holy Cross Health Care Center. Administrators who testified in support were Brenda Buttrick, Melissa Castor, Chuck Crush, Malcolm Dean and Chantal Dja Konan. They all did great.

We are committed to fixing problems with our nursing home reimbursement system.

We thank those on the Senate Finance Committee, especially Sen. Rosenwald (prime sponsor) and Sens. Lang & Watters (co-sponsors), who are going to bat for our most vulnerable citizens.

Brendan had the pleasure of hanging out with Sister Jacqueline at Holy Cross Health Care Center, one of our two member facilities for nuns. She was a principal, including at two New Hampshire schools, generally working for no more than $1 a day. On Medicaid, she now faces severe care cuts due to a problem with the state's rate methodology.

It's bitterly cold and snowy and the closures are stacking up. But our members will not be closing! Thanks to all the dedicated long-term care workers out there.

Brendan and Kristen had a nice visit at Hillsboro House, the smallest family-owned nursing home in the New Hampshire Health Care Association membership. 26 residents in-house today.

As always, the work of licensed nursing assistants like Amanda pictured with Brendan, is an inspiration.

We're having a tough flu season nationally and here in New Hampshire, and it's filling our hospitals with cases. It's not too late to get the flu vaccine. It may not always be 100% protective, but it mitigates symptoms and hospitalization risk.

Please think of those who are vulnerable when you decide whether to reduce the risk of flu transmission.

The CDC reported Friday that the rate of kids and teenagers hospitalized with flu is the second highest in 15 years for this point in the season.
