Sarah Monoson of the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union recently visited the town of Penney Farms and Penney Retirement Community. During her visit, she spent time with residents and the Marketing Director to learn more about the unique character and close-knit nature of our community.
At the Historical Museum, Sarah met with residents to gather insights into the life and legacy of James Cash Penney and his role in the founding of the community. She was also given a guided tour by the Marketing Director, which included stops at the Penney Memorial Church, the Golden Rule Dining , and a historic cottage.
We thoroughly enjoyed having Sarah visit and appreciate her interest in sharing our story!
In 1925, J.C. Penney bought 120,000 acres in Clay County, Fla. He envisioned an experimental farming project and a final home for retired ministers.
