“I ground myself in change.”

The world can feel like a whirlwind right now — headlines shifting daily, seasons turning, energy moving fast. In Ayurveda, this is the start of Vata season: a time of air and movement, where it’s easy to feel scattered or restless.

This week, let your mantra be an anchor. Pause, breathe, and find small ways to root yourself — a warm meal, time in nature, or simply rolling out your mat. Change will always move around us, but we can choose to stay grounded within it.

Meet Tracy, one of our wonderful instructors here at Blue Door! 💙

A certified YogaWorks teacher and longtime student of Zen Buddhism, Tracy brings nearly two decades of combined study in both traditions. Her classes weave thoughtful, alignment-based asana with breath work and mindfulness - guiding students toward balance, self-awareness, and embodied presence.

In both yoga and meditation, Tracy creates a quiet, compassionate space to explore stillness, cultivate resilience, and carry the teachings off the mat and into daily life. 🌿✨

As Joey from Friends would say, "How YOU doin'?" 

The world is fast and chaotic.  We blinked and September is over--like, how?!?! We're now in that crazy time that is known as "the holidays" where all the months converge together.  And then it's the new year.

I had posted something on social media last week that said our nervous systems are not meant to handle the amount of information being thrown at us daily.  Research says doing things that are familiar calms the nervous system--that's why we like to watch our favorite shows or movies over and over (oh, sorry, is that just me?  My bad).  My go to (have you guessed?) is Friends.  It's fun.  It's light.  It's perfect.  It takes me back to a time when my life (and the world) seemed a little lighter, a little less scary.

Ayurveda says lean into routines.  Create and stick to consistent bed times and wake up times.  Have set meal times and maybe even eat the same thing for breakfast every morning.  Create routines that soothe the soul and quiet the nervous system.  Familiarity is good for the soul.

You'll just find me over here, curled up on my couch watching Friends.  And breathing.  Let me know what you're doing to calm your nervous system during this seasonal shift and whirlwind of a year.  I really want to know "how you doin'?"

RECLAIMING YOGA

So many GOOD conversations are always floating around Blue Door!  From art, to food, to hiking, to anatomy, to health, to asana, to pranayama, to Ayurveda, and more.  I believe that one of the best things of our practice is being a part of such a wonderful community.  But there is one thing that unites all of us:  the desire for good, traditional yoga. 
 
What is traditional yoga?  Yoga that incorporates Ayurveda.  Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga.  It is one half of a system.

Today is World Physiotherapy Day (yes, that’s a thing 😉), so it feels like the perfect time to introduce one of our newest practitioners: Vincent! 💙

Vincent is a certified massage therapist and Sonoma County native, bringing advanced training in Neuromuscular Therapy, Corrective Exercise, and Fascial Stretch Therapy. His sessions combine techniques like deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and fascial stretching to relieve pain, restore mobility, and support long-term muscular health.
