Did you know smoking has a significant impact on your physical appearance, including your nails?

Smoking slows nail growth and encourages fungus development.

Smoking can also cause yellow staining and discoloration of your nails due to long-term ni****ne and tar exposure.

January 23rd is New Jersey’s Maternal Health Awareness Day.

In 2018, New Jersey became the first state in the nation to designate January 23rd as Maternal Health Awareness Day to both drive action and raise awareness of our maternal health crisis.

In 2021, 5.4% of women reported smoking during pregnancy.
Smoking during pregnancy is risky for both the pregnant individual and the baby.

Here’s why:
-Smoking reduces oxygen and nutrients to the fetus, leading to low birth weight, preterm birth and increased chances of birth defects.
-It doubles the risk of placenta problems, ectopic pregnancy and premature labor.
-There are higher miscarriage and stillbirth risks, with no safe level of smoking during pregnancy.
-Keep yourself and your baby safe. Take the first steps toward quitting smoking.

And here’s another inspiring fact — in 2022 alone, about 2.2 million people successfully quit smoking for good.

Also, if you’re ever looking for a quick snack to take your mind off smoking, popcorn is a yummy distraction.

NJ Quitline

The New Jersey Department of Health, Office of To***co Control, Nutrition and Fitness created the New Jersey Quitline, a free telephone-counseling service for smokers to quit to***co. While the rates of smoking have decreased since 2000 from 21% to 13.5%, there is still progress to be made. To***co-related disease continues to be the number one preventable cause of death in the United States. The NJ Quitline’s trained Quit Coaches provide callers with personalized quit tips and strategies to help smokers deal with stress, triggers and potential relapses. Callers who use Quitline services can more than double their chances of quitting successfully than quitting on their own. #NJQuitline www.NJQuitline.org
