March is Women’s History Month.

Women who smoke are 13 times more likely to develop lung cancer compared to men who smoke.

To***co companies often target younger women, women with lower incomes and those living in developing countries, which leads to higher rates of to***co-related diseases in these groups.

This month, we’re empowering women to take charge of their health and live smoke-free.

February 28th marks Rare Disease Day, a time to raise awareness about conditions that affect millions of people around the world.

Smoking can play a role in the development or worsening of several rare diseases, such as Buerger’s disease, a serious vascular condition, and certain types of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). It can also interact with genetic risk factors, increasing susceptibility to other rare conditions.

Quitting smoking is a powerful way to protect your health and lower your risk of disease.

NJ Quitline

The New Jersey Department of Health, Office of To***co Control, Nutrition and Fitness created the New Jersey Quitline, a free telephone-counseling service for smokers to quit to***co. While the rates of smoking have decreased since 2000 from 21% to 13.5%, there is still progress to be made. To***co-related disease continues to be the number one preventable cause of death in the United States. The NJ Quitline’s trained Quit Coaches provide callers with personalized quit tips and strategies to help smokers deal with stress, triggers and potential relapses. Callers who use Quitline services can more than double their chances of quitting successfully than quitting on their own. #NJQuitline www.NJQuitline.org
