Since 2024, the number of new Parkinson’s disease diagnoses in the United States has risen from approximately 60,000 to over 90,000 each year.

A few years ago, we created this video to help educate and inform our community on Parkinson's Disease. While some of the statistics have changed, the realities of Parkinson’s disease and its impact on individuals and families remain the same. That’s why continued education and awareness are so important.

This video highlights key information about Parkinson’s and offers a glimpse into what we’ll be covering more in-depth at our Parkinson’s Educational Seminar this May.

With Parkinson’s disease on the rise, it’s more important than ever to stay informed and connected. We invite you to join us at our upcoming seminar to learn more, ask questions, and gain valuable insight.

Please take a moment to watch and share—we hope to see you at our seminar on May 7th and 19th, from 10am - 12pm, at the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center in Pennsburg.

This Women's History Month, we’ve looked back at the women who helped shape our community. Now, we turn our focus forward to the leaders who are still writing their stories. 🌸

The next generation of women leaders is already here in our classrooms, our organizations, and our local businesses, building the future one step at a time.

To every young woman in our community, your dedication, ambition, and compassion matter more than you know.

The women we honor this month didn’t set out to make history. They simply refused to stop showing up. We hope you will too. 💛

With the theme for Women’s History Month this year being “Leading the Change,” the staff at Family Caregivers Network are honored to recognize our founder, Gerry Fioriglio, for leading change in home care within our community.

Over 25 years ago, Family Caregivers Network began as a vision for Gerry Fioriglio—one rooted in her belief that every individual deserves to age with dignity and independence. Today, that vision touches the lives of countless families. Gerry is a compassionate advocate, guiding others through difficult decisions with care and empathy, and her dedication is evident in both what she does and how she leads.

Her passion and perseverance have built more than a business, they’ve created a community grounded in care, connection, and a deep understanding of what families truly need. As her team, she inspires us to lead with empathy, compassion and make a meaningful difference every day.

In her own words:
“If I am ever having a bad day, spending time with one of the clients we care for truly grounds me, and I am reminded of why I do this job. They offer so much wisdom and insight, and we are here because of them.”

Thank you, Gerry, for leading the change and for the impact you continue to make. 💙

This week, we're bringing Women's History Month to a local perspective, honoring women who have been leaders in our community and have made a lasting impact.

If you live in Upper Perk, you may have heard of Miriam Sampayo, a woman who dedicated her life to serving others and leading change. Miriam lived an expansive career of leadership, and is a perfect example of how one person can make a big impact on so many.

She served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy, holding the rank of Lt. Junior Grade and Lieutenant, and was an instructor in the nursing diploma program at Grandview Hospital. She served as Vice President and President of the Upper Perk BPW, and was the first woman elected to serve on the Upper Perkiomen School District Board of Education — a role she held for around 22 years serving both Vice President and President of the board.

Nursing students who studied under her describe her as a compassionate mentor who profoundly influenced their careers. Women like Miriam remind us that leadership doesn't always make national headlines, and sometimes it shapes a community quietly, steadily, and deeply, one life at a time.

Family Caregivers Network is thrilled to welcome Kristie Sefing, MSW, LSW to our team!

Kristie is a dedicated and compassionate social worker with an impressive 27 years of experience in the field. She launched her career within the Grandview Health System, where she built a diverse and rich professional background spanning case management, hospice home care, and serving as the Grandview Post-Acute Liaison. She has also brought her expertise to a local law firm, where she served as their eldercare coordinator.

What drives Kristie is simple - people. She believes deeply in meeting individuals where they are in life, honoring their stories, and using her skills to help improve their quality of life. A passionate advocate for seniors, Kristie is committed to helping older adults access the services and care they deserve. In her own words: "I have worked in so many areas of social work, and I love that I can help people navigate the complex health care system with the skills I have acquired."

Kristie is eager to bring her wealth of knowledge and heart to FCN, and we couldn't be more excited to have her. She has shared that the warmth and enthusiasm of the FCN staff and Gerry have already made her feel right at home — and that joy is absolutely mutual! 🩵

At Family Caregivers Network, we recognize the vital role social workers play in helping individuals and families navigate healthcare and aging services. They serve as a crucial link between families and the resources they need—guiding care, connecting services, and advocating for those they support.

Through their compassion and dedication, social workers help ensure individuals receive the support needed to live safely and with dignity.

Social workers are vital partners for healthcare organizations like Family Caregivers Network. By working together, we can create thoughtful solutions that allow aging individuals to remain in their homes while receiving the support they need. We are proud to partner with social workers in our community to support aging individuals and their families.

During Social Worker Month, we thank you for the meaningful difference you make every day. 💙
