Why Equine Chiropractic?
A new year and so much more to talk about. I would like to start it off on this client:
I would like to introduce Rebel, a 30 going on 31 years old gelding who has been in one home his whole lucky life. His companion and I had a random encounter about 2 years ago when I was working a clinic, and she was delivering mail. After watching me, she asked if I would come out to evaluate and perhaps treat Rebel. A week later I was out at her rural location meeting Rebel.
Rebel had recently been diagnosed with Sidewinder Syndrome by her vet. This is not a disease, but a symptom with a poor prognosis. Typical display is usually a horse whose hindquarters lean to one side. There can be many causes, but treatment is imperative.
Formal management of this diagnosis can include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, antioxidants, and supportive care. Rebel’s companion did her research and knew how she wanted to proceed.
After one adjustment we saw great improvement. However, we did not expect this improvement to be permanent, but instead temporary.
Rebel is a case where we found a maintenance schedule that works. He tends to do very well between our planned adjustments, and if his companion notices otherwise, she reaches out and I can make sure I get him on my schedule, ideally within a week.
Rebel is a case that illustrates importance of consistent and reliable chiropractic care. He reinforced my passion to make sure the clients I accept are within a driving distance that ensures I can be accessible when care is needed, not just when I happen to be in their area.
Rebel is currently still thriving with the love his companion continues to pour into him. I consider myself lucky to be along for the ride.
