Baku is a mythical creature in Japanese folklore known as the "dream eater" or "nightmare devourer".
According to legend, it was formed from the leftover pieces after the gods finished creating other animals, combining features such as an elephant's head and trunk, a bear's body, a tiger's paws, a rhinoceros's eyes, and an ox's tail.
This chimera-like creature is believed to protect against nightmares and evil spirits, with its role evolving from a general protector against pestilence in early Chinese and Japanese texts to a specific dream-eater in Japanese tradition.
