A lot of people don’t realize how much overlap there can be between OCD and trauma

They just know something feels off

Their mind won’t slow down
They feel stuck in loops
There’s a constant sense of needing to figure something out or get it “just right”

And even when they understand what’s happening… it doesn’t stop

For some people, OCD isn’t just about thoughts or behaviors

It’s also connected to how their nervous system has learned to respond to stress, fear, or past experiences

Which is why insight alone doesn’t always create relief

This is something I see more often than people expect, especially with clients who feel like they’ve tried therapy before but are still stuck in the same patterns

I wrote more about this and how approaches like EMDR and intensive therapy can help here

A lot of people come into therapy knowing exactly what they’ve been through

They can explain it
They understand their patterns
They’ve made connections

…but their body still reacts the same way when something gets triggered

That’s usually the part that feels confusing

Because it’s not about understanding anymore
It’s about processing

This is where approaches like Brainspotting can be really helpful

Instead of staying in the thinking part of things, Brainspotting works more directly with the nervous system and the way experiences are stored in the body

It allows us to access and move through things that don’t always shift through talking alone

I often incorporate Brainspotting into intensives when it feels like the right fit, especially for clients who feel like they’ve already “done the work” but aren’t seeing the changes they expected

If you’re curious about what that looks like or how it works, you can read more here 👇

Sometimes the shift isn’t doing more work in therapy

It’s having enough time and space to actually move through what’s already there

I talk to a lot of people who have been in therapy before and say things like:

“I know why I feel this way”
“I’ve talked about this so many times”
“I just don’t feel different”

And that’s usually the moment where it’s not about more insight

It’s about creating the kind of space where your nervous system can actually process what’s been sitting under the surface

For some people, that looks like stepping out of the weekly format and into something more focused

More time
More continuity
Less stopping and starting

And for some, even stepping away from their usual environment so they can fully focus on their healing

If you’ve been feeling that gap between understanding and actually feeling different, it might be worth exploring a different approach

If you want to talk through what that could look like for you, you can schedule a consult here

If you’ve ever thought…

“I’ve been in therapy before, so why do I still feel stuck?”

You’re not the only one.

A lot of people get to a point where they:
understand their patterns
can explain where things come from
and have done a lot of good work

…but their body still reacts the same way when something gets triggered

That disconnect can feel really frustrating

And it often has people wondering if they’re missing something or doing something wrong

Most of the time, it’s not that

It’s that insight and processing are not the same thing

Understanding your story is important
But your nervous system also has to have the chance to actually move through it

I wrote a blog on this because it comes up so often, especially for people who feel like they’ve “done therapy” but aren’t seeing the shifts they expected

You can read it here

At some point, a lot of people hit this thought in therapy:

“I don’t want to keep talking about this for another year.”

Not because therapy isn’t helpful
But because it starts to feel like you’re circling the same things without actually moving through them

You understand your patterns
You can explain where things come from
But the emotional reaction is still there when something gets triggered

That’s usually the point where people start looking for something different

Not more therapy
Not trying harder
Just a different way of doing the work

For some, that looks like having more time and space to actually process what’s been coming up instead of stopping and starting each week

It’s also why some clients choose to step outside of their normal routine, sometimes even traveling in, so they can focus fully on their healing

If you’ve been having that “I don’t want to keep doing this the same way” thought… it’s worth paying attention to

If you’re curious what that kind of work can look like, you can read more here 👇

A lot of people come to me feeling confused about why therapy hasn’t worked the way they hoped it would.

Not because they haven’t tried
Not because they’re resistant
Not because they don’t “want it enough”

But because they’ve been doing the kind of therapy that helps them understand… not necessarily process

There’s a difference between being able to explain your patterns
and actually feeling different when something gets triggered

And if you’ve ever had the thought,
“I know why I’m this way… so why does it still feel the same?”

That’s usually the gap

For some people, this is where having more time and space to work through things in a deeper, more focused way can make a big difference

It’s also why some clients choose to step outside of their usual routine, even traveling in, so they can actually focus on their healing without everything else pulling at them

If this resonates, you’re not doing anything wrong
You might just need a different approach

If you want to talk through whether this could be a good fit for you, you can schedule a consult here:

You’ve done therapy.
You understand your patterns.
You can explain why you are the way you are…

So why does it still feel the same when something gets triggered?

This is one of the most common things I hear from clients.

And it’s not because you’re doing therapy wrong.

It’s usually because insight alone doesn’t always lead to your nervous system actually feeling different.

You can understand something logically and still feel it in your body the exact same way.

That’s often where people start to feel stuck.

For some, this is where a different approach starts to make more sense. More time, more space, and the ability to actually work through what’s been sitting under the surface instead of circling it week after week.

I also work with clients who choose to travel in for intensives so they can step away from their normal environment and focus fully on their healing.

If this is hitting a little too close, you’re not alone. And there are ways to move through this differently.

I just wrote a blog on whether traveling for therapy is worth it and what that can actually look like.

If you feel like you’ve been stuck in the same patterns…
overthinking everything, carrying anxiety in your body,
or trying to move on from something that still feels very present…

you’re not alone.

A lot of people come to me after trying weekly therapy and feeling like
they’re talking about it… but not fully moving through it.

That’s where a more focused approach can help.

Instead of stretching the work out over months,
we create intentional space to actually process what’s underneath it —
so you can start to feel real relief, not just temporary coping.

This is especially helpful if you’re:
• constantly anxious or on edge
• stuck in relationship patterns you can’t seem to break
• carrying trauma that still feels activated
• exhausted from “managing” instead of healing
