Angie Hoke-Durant is doing well. Going with spiky hair while it grows out. Beautiful as always. Currently she is getting radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Then her care takes a turn for the long term. God has always been faithful; the church, friends, family - what more to say but we couldn’t have done these past 9 months without you. We love you all. Trusting in Him…

Angie Hoke-Durant had her follow up with oncology today to go over the results of pathology after surgery last week. As expected the tumor did shrink after chemotherapy. Of 4 lymph nodes biopsied, 1 contains tumor cells and the other 3 do not, Praise God it could have been much worse. The margins surrounding the tumor are negative (which was the goal.) Overall it is a better report but not a clean report. We still have work to do. Our next appointment is with radiation-oncology to start radiation treatment this month.

Ultimately I liken it to having climbed out of the valley and now we stand at the base of the mountain. Things are looking up but we still have to climb.

Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow. Our complete trust in in the Lord Jesus.

Surgery day- Long day for Angie Hoke-Durant. It started out with our good friend Kim Ross who met us at the hospital early this morning. As a nurse she’s been a really good support system for Angie. Before surgery we had to get some studies in the nuclear medicine department. Once done with radiology we went to Pre-op. This is certainly the hurry up and wait phase of the day. But there we did meet her recovery nurse, Brent, who sought us out to share he and his wife’s experience. Brent and his wife walked this very road last year. Same oncologist, same chemotherapy, same side effects. We both talked about how good The Lord has been throughout this experience; the meal trains from church and all the wonderful people who helped us along the way. Just too many to name. Surgery went well and Dr Moore said there were no surprises. I was impressed with the surgical services at West Florida Hospital as they did a great job keeping me updated along the way. Angie experienced some post op sickness but that was dealt with and she is at home resting now. We have received a lot of text messages today. Sorry I haven’t been able to follow up with you yet. Thank you all for your concern and prayers.

This is Angie Hoke-Durant’s oncologist, Dr Owera. We love this doctor and the skill and compassion he brings to the table. No need to leave Pensacola, we have what we need right here. Tomorrow is surgery day with Dr Jon Moore. We have all confidence in The Lord and the skilled physicians he has put in our path.

Angie Hoke-Durant Chris Durant, The Lord is so good to us. Angie reached an important milestone in defeating this cancer today. Chemotherapy is DONE. I can’t overstate how tough she has been throughout these past 6 months. We have upcoming appointment with surgeon and then radiation moving forward. But, moving forward nonetheless.

Sorry everyone, it’s been awhile since last update. Today Angie Hoke-Durant is getting her 10th chemo treatment. Just 3 left!!! Barring any set backs we should be done with chemo by the end of June. Next will be surgery and radiation. Angie has been dealing with neutropenia with the last few treatments which allows her to be susceptible to infection but with some reasonable measures on our part, God’s divine hand and all of these Apostolic ladies surrounding her in prayer she has been protected. We were allowed a chemo break one week so I took her and the kids to Orlando for some fun. The weather was perfect. We all needed it. We are all so grateful to our family and friends who have reached out to offer help and prayers. I have received your messages. Thank you all.

Well Angie Hoke-Durant had quite the day today. She’s been feeling weak and lightheaded. It culminated with her passing out in the oncology office today. It’s a condition called vasovagal syncope and she is prone to it under certain conditions. I am used to it when it happens and don’t get excited like others when they see it. Her blood counts have dropped and she became pale. For my medical friends her H&H is 7/23. She started this process a few months ago with hgb of 13 so this is a fairly big drop in 3 months. After she woke up and had time to recover she felt better so we still pressed on with chemo and fluids today which helped. She is tough as nails. I love this girl with everything in me. When God is finished pruning her she is going to florish. She is getting a blood transfusion in the morning and she should feel better.

Well I guess it’s been awhile since last update. I’m starting to get a lot of text messages from people who want to know how Angie Hoke-Durant is doing. She completed her first stage of treatment this week, the roughest chemotherapy that she will receive during treatment. And yes, it was hard on her and she is still very weak but with the help of The Lord she is on her way to recovery. The way her oncologist broke down her treatment schedule there will be four stages of treatment. The first two stages are all chemotherapy, then surgery, then radiation. We are certainly glad to put stage 1 behind us. Overall we’ve still got a road to walk but we are hoping the worst of it, besides upcoming surgery, is behind us. So many people have stepped up to help us. We are just so grateful for all the food that has been brought to our house, the picking up and dropping off of our kids, the prayers, the kindness and love shown to our family. We love y’all. Thank God she’ll get a little break this week. On to stage two next week…

I would like to also give a special shout out to Brother Robby Nelson and his lovely wife Jackie. We had a major water leak which flooded our house at 5pm on a Friday evening. Robby came right over and fixed the problem. I was at work in the ER and those two were at our house until 11:30 pm working on the problem and restoring water to our house so Angie and the kids wouldn’t go without. In the church, God has put such wonderful people in our lives.

That’s it for now… God is great and everyone be blessed.

Angie Hoke-Durant just finished her 3rd dose of chemotherapy (AC) this morning. After getting the infusion the post chemo symptoms hit her hard for about a week and a half. She is achy, weak and tired and requires lots of rest. So this past weekend was good for her. She was strong enough to get out and go a few places. Just getting outside in the sunlight does so much for you. We missed our Valentines dinner so we made up for it, and I took her out to eat. Her taste buds have changed but she was happy with potato soup and green beans. Most importantly, she made it to church where a powerful prayer meeting broke out for our women who have fallen under attack. Cindy Nooner we are certainly in prayer for you during the fight of your life. Nothing on this earth is like the church! They love you. They feed you. They hug you, and they war in the spirit for you. Thank you to all of our friends, family and my coworkers who have reached out with gifts, and flowers, picked our kids up for church, sent food to our house and have prayed for us. We certainly don’t feel like we are walking this road alone.

Well, we got through second dose of chemo this week. They call it the Red Devil (for obvious reasons.) Angie Hoke-Durant started losing her hair today. Our favorite, Sharon Rao knew exactly how to handle this. We started with prayer in her house and you could feel the presence of God. He brought a peace and comfort to Angie. We have preserved most of her hair and we will send it out for a wig to be made. The red devil may have claimed some hair but it will not have dominion over Angie or our family. She does get sick from the chemo for a few days but she is being well taken care of. Angie looks amazing and has a better looking head than I do. To new beginnings…

Things became real for Angie Hoke-Durant today. We started chemotherapy. Those mittens on her hands and feet are filled with cold packs, hopefully to prevent peripheral neuropathy. We put the cold cap on her head too. Man, those packs are freezing to my hands (I can only imagine on her head), hopefully it will prevent hair loss. Our oncologist doesn’t think it will work with this particular chemo regimen though. She did well and I’m very proud of her.

Yesterday, at church we had a powerful prayer meeting over her. To know we have a powerful God who knows the very number of hair on our head and a church family who loves you brings comfort. So many at FPC who want to help. We love you all.

A very special thanks goes to my wonderful mother-in-law Kathy Hoke who dropped everything and bought a one way ticket to Pensacola. She is here to help until this is done.
