What do you do to prioritize your own well being?

I used to struggle with the term self care.  It felt indulgent, excessive and so... extra! It kinda made me gag a little to be honest.

But as life goes on, I’ve become more of a believer in that old saying “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” When we prioritize our rest, our health, our needs, we are able to pour into all the tasks at hand from a full cup, rather than dribbling out the last few drops.  

What do you do to operate optimally?

I’m a big believer in multi-tasking (hello mom life).  So when I can find an activity that targets more than one thing at a time, I’m all about it.  This 3 in 1 position can be used for simultaneous strengthening and stretching.  

First of all, activate your glutes by slightly tucking the pelvis under.  

Second, lift your core, from the bottom to top (avoid sagging your belly).  

Third, slightly push the front of your hip forward to feel a stretch through your hip and thigh.  You can even amplify this by reaching overhead!

Did you know that your knee position impacts your diastasis healing? If you tend to stand with your knees hyperextended, it makes it harder for all your muscles to work, especially your core! This means constant poor loading on your abdominals and limited healing.  Simply unlock your knees to feel your entire spine stack tall and allow your core and hip muscles to engage!

Why do I do what I do?

One of the primary reasons I began my business 1 year ago was because I began to experience first hand how many moms live in survival mode- pushing themselves to their limits daily, weary and overwhelmed, and burdened by constant aches and pains.
Rather than succumbing to this cultural expectation that this is simply what motherhood requires of us, I am doing what I can to combat it.  
I challenge you, mama, to choose to live the good life.  Maybe that means taking a break from social media scrolling.  Maybe it means setting boundaries on an exhausting relationship. Or maybe it means prioritizing taking care of yourself and recovering from pregnancy, delivery, and motherhood.  I would love to join your journey to embracing the good life.

DIASTASIS RECTI 😰😨😱

Did you know that up to 40% of women have diastasis 6 months postpartum? Do you?

Checking is easy! Start by lying on your back.  Barely lift our head off the surface.  Gently push your fingers in your midline at 3 points- below your ribcage, at your belly button, and between your belly button and p***c bone.  The tissue should feel firm, like a trampoline, not sink in.  Consider both the width and the depth of any separation.  Next, activate your core (think exhale through your lips and lift your pelvic floor), and re-assess. Comment what you discover!

What are typical developmental goals for a 4 month old? 👶

Being a mom to a little one can be overwhelming in a million ways, so I like to keep it simple! At 4 months old, babies should be finding midline across all positions! Fingers of both hands to mouth, lifting and kicking both feet, and being able to look equally both directions.

Do you lean on the kitchen counter? Next time you’re washing dishes, scrolling Instagram, cutting up vegetables, etc, pay attention to how you’re standing 🧍‍♀️
Did you know that leaning on the counter eliminates most of your muscular support and relies on overstretched joints to hold you up? Next time you notice yourself doing this, try pushing your hips back two inches and hinging at the waist! You’ll notice your muscles start working and your pain disappear!
