🎨 Grief Comes in Many Colors 💛
Over the past two weeks at Valerie’s House Pensacola, our children explored the many emotions that come with grief through a creative and meaningful activity called “Mixed Feelings,” inspired by My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss.
Using color, conversation, and Floam, each child identified the emotions they’ve felt since losing their loved one and assigned a unique color to each feeling. From sadness and anger to love, confusion, and even joy, we talked about how grief is never just one thing. It’s a mix of many emotions all at once.
By blending their chosen colors of Floam together, the children created a physical representation of their grief: messy, beautiful, and uniquely theirs. 💙
These activities help kids name their feelings, feel seen and heard, and take home a reminder that all of their emotions are valid. It was a powerful reminder that healing doesn't mean ignoring our feelings. It means giving them space to exist, mix, and be understood.
