These are lives filled with decades of resilience, perspective, humor, and hard-earned wisdom—and they are generous enough to share it.

I learn something from them every single day. Not just about medicine, but about living well, staying grounded, and what really matters in the end.

Grateful to care for them. Even more grateful to listen.

This week reminded me that medicine isn’t just about science — it’s about people, stories, and trust that spans generations.

I had the privilege of caring for the fourth generation of the Messina family — a moment that made me pause and appreciate how powerful relationships can be in healing.

In today’s world of EMRs, checkboxes, and algorithms, connection still matters most. That’s the heartbeat of real care — and it’s something no AI will ever replace.

A reflection on connection, continuity, and the part of medicine no algorithm can replace.
