We trust our favorite baristas and mechanics, not just for what they do, but how they make us feel. Shouldn’t your healthcare feel just as personal? Stop waiting for change—seek care brewed just for you.

Why aren’t we insisting on care that’s as personal as our coffee order?

The other day, I received a message about plans for my high school reunion, and it reminded me of the transformative power of nostalgia. Growing up in the 1980s, I was part of a generation that learned early on to rely on ourselves, to be resourceful and independent. This self-reliance wasn’t just a trait; it was a necessity. We were the first generation with both parents that worked outside of the home, and many of us came home from school to empty houses, fending for ourselves until they came home – we were the “latchkey kids”. The experience engrained in us to adapt, be practical and independent.. traits that have served us well in our careers as physicians.

To my fellow GenX Latchkeys or anyone inspired by the 80s Twisted Sister’s anthem “We’re not going to take it”, we know that the status quo is not working.

Sometimes, the protocol can get in the way of care. When a family’s clear decision is ignored and repeated, it adds stress—not support. Real care means listening and respecting the person, not just following a checklist. Let’s put patients first.

How over-standardization and rigid policies are quietly undermining patient care

From library bookshelves to the physician’s office, community and conversation shape how we care for each other. My time at the American Library Association Conference reminded me how important it is to meet people where they are—whether through stories or healthcare. Excited to keep building connections and reimagining what care can look like!

Clubfoot, it's something podiatrists are familiar with and with today's technologies can often be picked up during the prenatal visits on ultrasound. Depending on when it's detected and the degree of deformity - if treated early, there are many options available that can be done to avoid surgical intervention. However, when surgery is warranted, it will depend on the point that the degenerative changes are noted.

Here's an interesting find from The Bone Museum about this condition.

It’s the start of a new month, and that means new interns are stepping into hospitals—learning the ropes, making mistakes, and getting better every day. If you see someone double-checking or asking questions, that’s part of the process. For those of us who’ve been there, it’s a reminder that everyone starts somewhere. For patients and families, know these new docs are working hard and supported by a whole team to make sure you’re in good hands.
