I hear from a lot of clients that they’re worried they’re trauma dumping on friends or family. here’s the difference. it’s about consent + reciprocity.

especially for neurodivergent folx, we like deep vulnerability in order to connect. the important part, again, is consent + reciprocity.

ask. ask if they have space to hear something heavy. then, proceed slowly. rather than sharing intense details, share how you are feeling and what you need. co-regulating with others is a beautiful thing, but it’s much different than relying on others to regulate you.

reminder: you can’t “trauma dump” on your therapist, because that relationship is meant to be one-sided and therapists are in a role prepared to hear your trauma and help you heal. 🥰

by the time a parent finds out their teen/kid is trans, their kiddo has probably known for many years. being trans isn’t a trend or a phase. listen to your kid’s words and let them lead the way. 🫶🏼

it’s such an honor when people share things that are deeply personal to them. when clients have come out to me as trans, often before telling anyone else, I’m just filled with gratitude and pride for them. try your best to contain your own feelings and pause if you’re unsure what to say ❤️ the best thing they can know is that you’re still in their corner.

✨ share on your page to help others learn how to better respond.

It’s important to hear from survivors. This article discussing how the writer listens to Nobody’s Girl by Epstein trafficking survivor, Virginia Roberts Guiffre, while calming her own nervous system and staying present.

Why? Because it’s important to engage instead of look away. It’s important to listen to survivors (rather than abusers).

Check these out and consider it a way to engage rather than look away (which seems to be a common concern right now with everything going on).

How to engage with fu***ng gross s**t.

our connections with others can often feel complicated. sometimes we feel misunderstood or our own “stuff” gets in the way. i find that when working in relationship therapy, it brings out individual things we need to work on. we learn healthy boundaries + communication, & take accountability for our own “stuff.”

i love working with diverse relationships. that includes anything from parent/child to couples to polycules or throuples, to couples navigating opening their relationship, to platonic relationships, and more.

therapists aren’t advice givers. your therapist isn’t just withholding the answers. in fact, a lot of the times advice giving / reassurance giving, etc are feeding a cycle that leads to dependency on your therapist rather than building your self voice 🫶🏼

holding space can be hard work, but it’s rewarding work. I see people at their hardest points, but I also get to celebrate with them at every little win. it’s such an honor 😭🥰

shame isn’t an innate response and we CAN change the way we respond to ourselves. 🫶🏼 I love seeing clients switch the narrative in therapy and release the voice that isn’t theirs to hold.
