Physical Therapists, personal trainers, strength coaches, and ATCs … our gym is hosting our mentor, Bryce Turner, as he teaches ELDOA lvl 1/2 next weekend October 26-27. This is one of the best modalities we’ve ever used to help our clients relieve their back pain and correct spine alignment issues. You can use this class for continuing education for your certifications. I’ve used it for both of mine. If you’re interested please reach out or sign up in the link below. We are doing a golf workshop Friday the 25th from 8-12 which will be followed by lunch at McGuires and then a 9 holes of golf at Marcus Pointe (not included in the workshop price). We look forward to seeing you there!

❗️BUCKET LIST ACCOMPLISHMENT ❗️
Angela here had a knee replacement about a year ago and when she came back to sessions her goal was to start checking off bucket list items. Hiking around Yosemite was one of the big ones her and her husband wanted to accomplish.
She told me they had registered for the trip and had 60 days to be in the best possible shape to hike almost 4-6 miles a day.
We practiced walking hills with her new walking sticks and got her as strong and coordinated as possible to tackle this beautiful park! In total, they ended up walking around 32 miles the week they were there!
The smiles in the pictures and being able to experience such a beautiful landscape were worth all the hard work!
These accomplishments are some of my favorite reasons why I love what I do. It may not be easy at times but to see my people LIVE and enjoy their lives is all worth it!

If you’re seriously wanting to improve your performance on the golf course, it’s a good idea to break down how your body affects your swing. That way it will be more efficient for the professionals that help you to build you up according to what your capabilities are.
Most “obvious” example is Jon Rahm. His swing was built to take advantage of what he is capable of.

Being aware of your body’s movement capabilities can drastically help your golf game and developing a swing that is efficient and repeatable for you.
My takeaways from this screening are:
- my hips have plenty of room for improvement in mobility
- my left shoulder and lat flexibility may be hindering my after contact movement
- the structures involved in thoracic rotation could use A LOT of love 😇
Stay tuned to see how we improve these key areas!
Everyone has different capabilities. Not everything can be solved or improved with one kind of drill or exercise. Find out what you need specifically and put effort into improving those things and you’ll gradually (sometimes quickly) see and feel better in your movement and performance.

MISSION STATEMENT!
Many of you don't know this about me, but I struggled for years to come up with a mission statement for my business. Sometime last year, this phrase started to rattle around in my head. I could tell it was important but I could not figure out what was missing from it. FINALLY, a couple weeks ago, the all caps part came around haha.
One thing I've learned since starting all this is that the better you know yourself and believe in who you are, the easier things tend to come through the creative process. Business also tends to upgrade itself and bring you clients that match what you're about.
So this is what I am about! Helping you live life fully so that you can enjoy it. From enjoying walking around a foreign country to shooting your best score at your home course. Everything we do is to help you participate in whatever your heart desires!
I am so thankful for the people/clients that have stuck with me through all the ups and downs and transitions in locations. I love helping all of you live your best and most confident life! More amazing things to come for all of us!

Welcome to Pillar of Light Performance! I am JL Cruz, a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, AFAA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, and certified through the Titleist Performance Institute. My mission is to assist clients in creating a pain free life through education, fitness, healthy lifestyle habits and sport performance related training.
I graduated in 2005 from University of West Florida with a degree in Athletic Training. I worked for Baptist Health Care/Andrews Institute for 13 years (2005-2018) in the Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Outreach departments. During that time, I worked in physical therapy clinics assisting Physical Therapists treat their patients. My passion for helping people improve their lives led me to be a Personal Fitness Trainer and launch my own business. In this space I can utilize all of my knowledge, skills, and experience to assist others in creating their best selves.
My focal points are on functional movement screening, teaching proper body mechanics, and fitness training. This includes mobility and strengthening exercises to help clients move better and be physically prepared for life.
Training for athletes or active individuals include sport specific training with an emphasis on educating them about more efficient movement patterns and awareness of body mechanics.
I am also certified through the Titleist Performance Institute to evaluate golfers in their movement and swing style. I help them figure out how to make their swing more efficient by correcting limitations in their mobility and strength. Golf coaches and I work as a team to improve our player’s abilities.
