MEET THE LADIES IN THE OFFICE!

Other than our founder/ Owner, and our Executive Director, Jenny Wolff RN, We have 2 unique ladies that dedicate themselves to making our office and business strive! Let’s meet them!

Madison Smith has been with us since January, 2024. She has been a crucial part of our success. Madison was first hired on as our receptionist and within 3 months, she became the Managing Director, handling the workload of the Assistant Director, Administrator, Marketer, and HR Rep. She has been dedicated and committed since day one and it shows! She has been working in the medical field since the age of 16 and has vast knowledge of the healthcare industry, which is a huge asset to our company. When Madison is away from work, she enjoys spending time with her husband who serves in the US Navy, as wells as traveling and cooking!

Christa Kiefer has been with us since May, 2024 as our Administrator/Receptionist. She spent the past 10 years raising her two daughters and working a full-time job as a receptionist at a local physicians office here in Pensacola. She decided one year ago to pursue her dreams by starting her path to becoming a Radiologic Technologist (X-Ray Tech), which led her here. She has experiences a home health aide, as well as healthcare reception. She has a big heart, is dedicated to her job and is a delight to have the office. When not working, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her loved ones, and drawing!

One of the challenges of being an in-home caregiver for an elderly loved one is helping maintain a sleep schedule that is heathy for their mind and body.

In our later years, restlessness at night and feeling tired during the day is common. This cycle of poor sleep can also lead to other health problems and lead to more extreme symptoms if the person has a form of Dementia or Alzheimer’s.

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

Changes in sleep can happen for many reasons:

• changes in the brain may cause the body’s natural “clock” to change – the body can feel awake during the night and sleepy during the day

• pain from arthritis or other illnesses can wake the person

• the person needs to go to the bathroom

• the person may have problems breathing while they sleep; this can cause loud snoring

• feeling very sad or nervous can keep one up for hours

WHAT CAN YOU DO AS A CAREGIVER

KEEP A REGULAR SCHEDULE
• begin each morning at the same time and the same way
• keep them as active as possible during the day-walks,
gardening, and other daytime activity is good
• avoid naps later in the day
• make sure to keep the same relaxing routine before bedtime

OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO

• provide as much bright light as possible during the day
• if they really want to be up at night, do not force them to be
in bed or to sleep
• keep everything quiet and dark at nights
• help them avoid drinking coffee, tea, or soda with caffeine
after 2PM
• give less liquids in the evening
• keep a light on in the bathroom to avoid accidents
• massages may help some people

SPEAK WITH A DOCTOR IF:
• they have pain
• they snore badly
• they go to the bathroom a lot
• they seem very sad or nervous

Don’t use sleep medicines of any kind without speaking with a doctor first. Sleep medicines can cause confusion and falls.

The new year is the perfect time to start Journaling with your elderly loved ones.

Journaling is a mental exercise that can help fight forgetfulness and also keep us sharp in our later years.

That's why we implemented our Memory Journal program for aging adults. Our caregivers will help your loved one journal with some of these prompts.

This helps our seniors recall important times and also serves as a way to record their treasured history, preserving it for years to come.

It’s easier now more than ever to become overwhelmed with stress and anxiety.

That’s why it is so important to help your elderly loved ones take the necessary steps to keep their mental and physical health stay in tip top shape.

Consider encouraging your parent or grandparent to take part in activities that help lower feelings of stress and anxiety.

Physical activity:
• Engaging in at-home workouts in order to avoid physical contact with others
• Take a walk around your neighborhood (ensure proper social distancing from others on the sidewalks).
• Dancing to uplifting music

Manage depression and anxiety:
• Meditation is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety according to the CDC . Find a quiet place in your home and set a timer for a specified period. If you’ve never meditated, start off with just 3 minutes, and focus on your breathing.
• You may also want to consider taking breaks from watching, reading and listening to news related to the outbreak to help reduce anxiety and stress. Use activities such as puzzles, crosswords, coloring books, painting, reading, and games to keep you engaged.
• It’s also important to stay in contact with close friends and family during stressful situations, so check-in with your loved ones by phone, Skype, or Facetime.

Eat right:
Older adults should continue to eat healthy, well-balanced meals. You should eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day, and limit alcohol intake and foods and drinks high in sugar, salt and saturated fat.

Sure, the holidays can be stressful. But when you’re a senior, that stress is vastly different.

Keep aware and listen to how your aging loved one is feeling.

They may feel the sorrow of lost loved ones, the frustration of not being able to help with holiday preparation like the used to, and a number of other things that may have them feeling a little off this time of year.

“Find and focus on the little things that you are thankful for. It can be as simple as looking out the window at the trees and blooming flowers. Do what makes you happy. I still love to cook!” Says Karen Weede (73), who is living with early-stage Alzheimer’s.

Interviews by ALZ.org, Karen provided some tips on how to maintain self peace no matter where you are in your journey.

Some seniors only need help with a couple of tasks during the day to get by.

That’s why we offer flexible and adaptive care options.

The Bath Only Care Option is open to seniors and/or disabled individuals who need help with the bathing procedure.

Either they don’t have the mobility to bathe themselves independently or perhaps bathing without support can put their safety at risk of falling down and hurting themselves.

Bathing is important in personal hygiene and is a part of our daily schedules that we cannot eliminate.

Home Care Solutions can send over a caregiver to help you or your loved with this task.

Talk to our care coordinator to request for home care services soon. Please call 850-433-0733.
