Downtown Pensacola Downtown Pensacola—discovered in 1559 and recently voted “Florida’s Greatest Place”!
(3376)

Dating back 450 years as the first European settlement in the United States, Pensacola has a rich and colorful history, and the heart of the city of Pensacola is its downtown. A refreshing blend of historic resolve and cosmopolitan progress defines Downtown Pensacola, a 44-block district encompassing historic and archaeological sites, chic shops, eclectic art galleries and award-winning restaurant

s. It's a walkable district lined with colorful bicycle racks, and bustling with alternative transportation options—from pedicabs to Segways to trolleys to holiday-time horse-drawn carriages. Thousands come to the nationally-recognized Blue Wahoos waterfront stadium, just around the corner, during spring and summer, and thousands more head downtown each Saturday for Palafox Market, a farmers' market enjoying its tenth anniversary in 2017. During the holidays, downtown Pensacola glows with the lights of half a million white lights and the month-long Winterfest, recognized as one of Florida's Top Events. Tall ship fans, thanks for your patience while we sorted out what's going on with the tall ship Elissa (schedule moved to early August). But the United States Coast Guard Barque EAGLE, known as "America’s Tall Ship," will be visiting Pensacola this weekend and you can tour the vessel free of charge at Plaza De Luna.

Don’t miss your chance to step aboard one of the most historic vessels still serving today. Built in 1936 as the Horst Wessel, the 295-foot ship originally served as a training vessel for the German Navy.

After World War II ended in 1945, the vessel was awarded to the United States as part of war reparations and officially entered service with the United States Coast Guard in 1946 under the name Eagle.

It's a true piece of living history — perfect for families, history lovers, and anyone wanting to honor Memorial Day weekend in a unique way. 🇺🇸

The Cutter Eagle will be in town from Saturday through next Monday. Here is the public tour schedule:

Saturday: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SCHEDULE CHANGE 😞
We have just received notice that the Tall Ship Elissa's final preparations are nearing completion, but a schedule change will move their Pensacola visit to early August. They will be finalizing their plans for Pensacola in the coming weeks, and we will post the new information just as soon as it is available. More info here on the new dates: https://galveston250.com/ports/pensacola-florida/

------------------

ORIGINAL POST
The tall ship, Elissa, is an 1877 square-rigged iron barque, brought over from Piraeus Harbor, Greece to Galveston, Texas, by the Galveston Historical Foundation. The ship’s restoration work began in 1978 and was completed in 1982, transforming the rare, historic vessel into a buoyant museum and functional sail ship. Elissa is one of only three ships of her kind in the world able to still actively sail and welcome visitors. Around 40,000 people visit the ship annually to dive into the rich history of the Gulf Coast’s beginnings.

FREE TOURS THIS WEEKEND
This weekend, you can visit Tall Ship Elissa at Palafox Pier and explore the deck for free from noon to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday. ⚓️

It’s Cinco de Mayo, and downtown Pensacola is fully committed 🌮✨
Tacos. Tequila. Margaritas. Karaoke. Sushi (??).
We’re not asking questions—we’re just going.
Here’s your game plan:

Tequila. Games. Specials.
‘Til close today—$5 for 2 street tacos (chicken, steak or shrimp), $5 house margs and $20 marg pitchers. Lotería 6-8pm. Henrii 8pm-close.

Cinco de Mayo! We’ve got $6 Margaritas and Palomas. $5 Tequila shots and more. Viva Badlands!

From easy-sipping cocktails to standout tequila and mezcal, everything you need to raise a glass. Cheers! Open today until 7PM.
Garden and Grain

Cinco de Mayo… but make it sushi. Why choose tacos or sushi when you can roll with both? Think bold flavors, spicy kicks, and a whole lot of fresh vibes. Spicy rolls hotter than your margarita. Fresh ingredients that hit every note. Because tonight… we roll different.
