Downtown Pensacola Downtown Pensacola—discovered in 1559 and recently voted “Florida’s Greatest Place”!
(3387)

Dating back 450 years as the first European settlement in the United States, Pensacola has a rich and colorful history, and the heart of the city of Pensacola is its downtown. A refreshing blend of historic resolve and cosmopolitan progress defines Downtown Pensacola, a 44-block district encompassing historic and archaeological sites, chic shops, eclectic art galleries and award-winning restaurants. It's a walkable district lined with colorful bicycle racks, and bustling with alternative transportation options—from pedicabs to Segways to trolleys to holiday-time horse-drawn carriages. Thousands come to the nationally-recognized Blue Wahoos waterfront stadium, just around the corner, during spring and summer, and thousands more head downtown each Saturday for Palafox Market, a farmers' market enjoying its tenth anniversary in 2017. During the holidays, downtown Pensacola glows with the lights of half a million white lights and the month-long Winterfest, recognized as one of Florida's Top Events. Palafox Street Construction Parking Update 🅿️🚗🌳

Heads up, downtown lovers! Construction on Palafox Street begins Monday, January 5. Fencing will go up on Tuesday, January 6, but good news: sidewalks will stay open, so it’s still easy to reach your favorite downtown shops, restaurants, and businesses.

Please note that all vehicles must be removed from Palafox Street between Garden and Main by 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 4.

To make visiting downtown easier during construction, the City is adding an additional 412 City on-street spots for free parking during construction.

And don’t worry—your favorite downtown events are still happening! Gallery Night Pensacola will continue with a slightly smaller footprint on the southern end of Jefferson Street. The Pensacola Mardi Gras Parade will roll along a modified route, and Palafox Market will be open every Saturday from 9 AM–2 PM.

So grab a free City parking spot, keep supporting local, and join us as we make exciting improvements to the heart of downtown Pensacola. For updates and details along the way, visit www.thenewpalafox.com 💙

Happy New Year from Downtown Pensacola!✨

As we head into 2026, Palafox Street is preparing for a transformation. Over the next few months, you’ll see construction activity and a portion of our historic street closed, but the sidewalks will remain open, businesses will be open and downtown will be very much alive.

The City is offering free on-street parking, and your favorite downtown traditions — Gallery Night Pensacola, Pensacola Mardi Gras, Palafox Market, and more — are still happening. Our local businesses need your support now more than ever, and we’re grateful to count on our incredible community as we work through the next few months.

Here’s to progress, resilience, and another great year downtown. ⭐️🎉🛍️🍽️🍷🍻👗🎨
