Crawling + Reaching Up

This week's webinar!

Michelle Turner emphasizes the importance of rotational movement and midline crossing for a child's overall development. Crawling and reaching up beautifully combine these principles:
Crawling: This cross-lateral movement strengthens the connection between the left and right sides of the brain, building a solid foundation for coordination, balance, and future learning.
Reaching Up: This action encourages your baby to cross their midline, further integrating brain hemispheres and promoting spatial awareness.

Deviation Scale for "Crawling + Reaching Up"
While your baby ideally starts crawling and reaching up around 10 months, Turner's Movement Lesson™ recognizes that every child develops at their own pace. Here's a possible deviation scale based on her principles:

*Optimal Development (10 months): Baby crawls fluidly and reaches up with ease, demonstrating good coordination and movement. They can retrieve toys from a higher surface while maintaining balance.

*Typical Development - Slight Deviation (11-12 months): Baby may crawl with a slightly less efficient pattern (e.g., bunny hopping, army crawling) or struggle to reach and grasp objects while crawling. They might need some support to maintain balance when reaching up.

*Developmental Delays - Moderate Deviation (13-15 months): Baby may not be crawling yet or shows significant difficulty with coordination while crawling and reaching. Reaching and looking up might be limited or hesitant.

*Developmental to Global Delays - Significant Deviation (16+ months): Baby shows little to no interest in crawling or reaching up. Difficulty with these movements may indicate underlying challenges that require further evaluation.

Connecting to Your Points

*Hitting Milestones Every Four Weeks: In an ideal scenario, your baby would master crawling and reaching up within the typical window (around 10 months). Consistent progress every four weeks suggests they are building upon previous skills and developing at a healthy pace.

*Increased Social Skills for Wants: Crawling and reaching up enable your baby to explore their environment and pursue desired objects. This fosters independence and helps them communicate their needs more effectively, leading to improved social interaction.

*Newborn Movement Assessment and Milestone Momentum Chart: These tools within Turner's Movement Lesson™ provide a comprehensive picture of your baby's development. Consistently low scores on the Newborn Movement Assessment or warnings on the Milestone Momentum Chart might indicate areas where your baby needs additional support to achieve optimal development in crawling and reaching.

Unveiling the Secrets of Infant Movement: Gravitational Primitive Reflexes - the missing link to understanding primitive reflexes.

Delve into the groundbreaking world of Gravitational Primitive Reflexes – a revolutionary concept pioneered by Michelle Turner of Movement Lesson. Explore how these automated responses to gravity shape a baby's physical and cognitive development, from breathing to walking.

Discover how the 8 essential Gravitational Primitive Reflexes, identified through Michelle's innovative rotational stimulation techniques, pave the way for optimal growth and cognitive advancement.

Learn about:
The Fetal Neutral Reflex - the foundation for in-utero growth.
The Breathing Reflex - establishing the body's ability to resist gravity and facilitating neurological integration.
The Absolute Horizon Reflex - regulating gravity's influence for spatial awareness.
The Coming off the Floor and Coming to the Floor Reflexes - crucial for weight transfer, transitional movements, and interacting with the environment.
The Falling Reflex - impacting vertical movements and vestibular development.
The Upside Down Reflex - combining vertical and horizontal responses with momentum.
The Hanging Reflex - showcasing a baby's ability to engage and hang from another person.

Understanding these reflexes empowers parents and professionals with crucial assessment tools, enabling early identification and intervention for enhanced infant development.

Join Michelle Turner, presenting at the Movement, Brain, and Cognition Conference at Charles University, on a journey to unlock the mysteries of infant movement and witness how these insights can transform the way we approach early childhood development.
