We are excited to share with you one of our recent rehabilitation success stories! Meet Ms. Mary Zapata (pictured with her Success Team - John with National Seating and Mobility, Courtney - OTR and Michelle - DOR) who worked with our awesome therapy team at River Crossing of Peoria towards increased independence and functional goals. We are proud to share her story and her success!

Mary Zapata has been a long-term care resident at River Crossing of Peoria since January 2023. Prior to being admitted to River Crossing of Peoria, Mary enjoyed spending time with her children and two dogs. Now, Mary enjoys participating in activities with the other residents, as well as her family members who visit daily.
Upon admission, Mary required extensive assistance with all activities of daily living- bed mobility, transfers, dressing, and bathing which resulted in long-term care placement. Recently, Mary was officially diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Through our partnership with National Seating and Mobility, they were able to provide a power wheelchair for Mary that she could operate with her cheek to be able to provide optimal comfort, such as, relieving pressure in order to continue to participate in activities with the other residents.

Michelle and the team at River Crossing of Peoria went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure Mary's needs were met. An amazing job to everyone involved!

Most of us know someone who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, whether it’s touched our own family or a friend’s loved ones. Nationally, November is known as Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Although everyone experiences a change in brain function as they age, what occurs with Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, which means it gets worse over time, and the person affected eventually loses the ability to accomplish daily tasks.

Whether it’s during November or any other time of the year, understanding Alzheimer’s disease can improve the quality of life for those with previously undiagnosed Alzheimer’s.

To familiarize yourself with the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's visit www.alz.org. If you notice these in yourself or someone you know, don't ignore them. Schedule an appointment with your doctor.

Today is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. It is a day to show support for all the caretakers who devote their time and energy to those with life-limiting illnesses. Jobs like these are often a calling and having the support of people who care helps them do their job better. We appreciate the care that these workers provide to our communities and the comfort that they bring to patients and their families.

We are excited to share with you one of our recent rehabilitation success stories! Meet Ms. Nancy Wright who worked with our awesome therapy team at River Crossing of Peoria towards increased independence and functional goals. We are proud to share her story and her success!

Nancy Wright was admitted to River Crossing of Peoria following a hospitalization stay to treat metabolic encephalopathy. Prior to the hospitalization stay, Nancy lived alone in a two-bedroom condominium where she completed all activities of daily living independently. Nancy received Physical and Occupational therapy services during her stay at River Crossing of Peoria. Upon arrival, Nancy required assistance with bathing, and dressing, as well as decreased activity endurance due to myeloma-cancer diagnosis. Nancy has improved in all areas necessary to discharge from skilled therapy services. Nancy and her family decided the safest discharge location would be an Independent Living Facility in order to safely transport to chemotherapy treatments.
