From 2023:
13.5 years ago I had someone come into my life. I didn’t realize the impact she would have on me, but she did.
13.5 years ago Ahmad was being cared for, sometimes around the clock, by the matriarch of West Chatham. She was a rock in my life when I didn’t know I needed a rock.
13.5 years ago I planned to have the same impact Ms. Reese had in my life in the life of other parents— it was my retirement plan.
About 10 years ago I found out about the profession known as a Doula. I was interested and intrigued— and bam, my retirement was planned.
Well, life has a funny way of working. Why wait until retirement when I can do it now?
After reflection and conversations, I signed up to be trained as a postpartum doula. Does this mean it will be my full time job? 🤷🏼♀️ Does this mean I will use the certification all the time? 🤷🏼♀️
What I do know, though, is that it uses my background, education, and experience. And, I am passionate about providing support to families— support I often longed for in the first months after Ahmad was born since my family was in another town.
As a postpartum doula I can work full time, part time, or PRN. Whatever this leads to, I am excited, nervous, and ready for this adventure.
If this all comes to fruition, I already have a business name: Rhys Doula. (Pronounced Reese, after Ms. Reese… and meaning passionate).
