These images depict clinical photographs taken before and after undergoing orthognathic surgery, in this case, a corrective procedure aimed at addressing an open bite condition. The 'before' images showcase the patient's dental alignment prior to the surgical intervention, highlighting the challenges associated with an open bite, such as misalignment of the teeth when the mouth is closed. In contrast, the 'after' images illustrate the transformative effects of the surgery, revealing significant improvements in the alignment and functionality of the bite. This surgical procedure not only enhances the aesthetic appearance of the patient's facial structure but also contributes to improved oral health and function, underscoring the effectiveness of orthognathic surgery in correcting complex dental issues.

Impacted teeth arise from several contributing factors such as developmental delays, dental crowding, and the fusion of an overlying primary tooth to the jawbone. This dental condition occurs when permanent teeth fail to erupt naturally or do not fully develop. The most commonly impacted teeth are the maxillary canines, also referred to as cuspids or "eye teeth." Thankfully, a combination of orthodontic treatment and surgical intervention can effectively address impacted teeth.

The image presented illustrates a patient who needs to undergo a surgical procedure to correct their impacted canine tooth. This procedure, known as "Expose and Bond," involves several critical steps. For optimal results, the patient should have braces placed prior to the surgery. During the Expose and Bond procedure, the impacted tooth is surgically revealed, and a specialized bracket is attached to the crown of the tooth. This bracket is connected via a chain to the wire of the braces, allowing the orthodontist to guide the eruption of the impacted tooth gradually.

The procedure is expertly performed by Dr. Otte, Dr. Pledger, Dr. Busch, and Dr. Schroeder at AOS, to resolve impacted anterior teeth. This treatment not only facilitates the proper alignment of teeth but also improves oral health and function.

Have you ever heard of a condition called a tongue-tie? It involves an unusually tight or thick band of tissue, known as the frenum, located beneath the tongue. When the frenum is too large or tight, it can lead to difficulties such as restricted tongue movement, which can cause a speech impediment or issues eating.

In our practice, we offer a procedure called a lingual frenectomy to address these concerns. Let me explain how this procedure works. By reducing or releasing the frenum beneath the tongue, individuals may experience improvements in communication and eating.

Additionally, you may have heard of a labial frenectomy, which deals with the frenum that connects the gum tissue to the upper or lower lip. In that scenario, excess pressure is released, which often helps in closing the gap between the two front teeth for a more cohesive dental alignment.

This straight forward procedure can significantly benefit both oral function and dental aesthetics, promoting healthier growth and improved quality of life.

Take a look at this surgical montage showcasing an exciting advancement in treatment options for edentulous patients who lack sufficient bone volume for traditional dental implants. This innovative approach features a custom-designed extra-skeletal implant, specifically tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy. This implant sits on the external surface of the skeletal anatomy making it an ideal solution for patients previously considered ineligible for traditional dental implants that are embedded within the bone. Watch as we walk through the surgical process step-by-step, highlighting the precision and customization that make this technique a promising option for complex cases.

🦷✨ Wisdom Teeth: Why Early Evaluation Matters! ✨🦷

This is a patient who can teach others the importance of early evaluation and taking action. These panoramic X-rays all belong to the same patient separated by seventeen years elapsed time. The untreated third molars which could have easily been addressed with routine preventative removal in adolescence, developed a large cyst around the lower left wisdom tooth resulting in displacement of the tooth and destruction of the jaw bone. Using state of the art 3D imaging and a CAD custom plate, Dr. Schroeder was able to treat the condition and prevent serious complications. Unfortunately, this approach is costly and involves more invasive surgery with prolonged recovery. Early intervention to address wisdom teeth remains the gold standard and helps to avoid the need for more involved surgery in the future.

Why Early Evaluation?
1️⃣ Prevention is Key: Many young adults may not feel any immediate issues with their wisdom teeth. However, without early checks, these teeth can cause trouble beneath the surface.
2️⃣ Avoid Complications: Delaying evaluation and removal can lead to complications, such as infections, damage to other teeth, or even pathological lesions. In this patients case, timely evaluation could have prevented such issues.
3️⃣ Smooth Sailing: Early removal is often less complicated and allows for quicker recovery, avoiding the discomfort of future problems.

Take Action!
If you're a young adult or a parent of teenagers, now is the perfect time to schedule an evaluation. Don't wait for the discomfort to catch you off guard—be proactive with your dental health!
