Inpatient vs. Outpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehabilitation hospitals like Reunion provide 24/7 supervision and daily therapy sessions for patients recovering from serious injuries, surgeries, or complex medical conditions. Patients stay in the hospital while receiving intensive, collaborative care from a team of physicians, nurses, and therapists. This environment is ideal for individuals who require constant monitoring, assistance with daily activities, or a structured rehabilitation schedule to regain independence safely and effectively.

Outpatient rehabilitation, on the other hand, is designed for patients who are medically stable and able to return home between sessions. Therapy is scheduled a few times a week, providing patients with the flexibility to continue making progress while maintaining their daily routines. Outpatient rehab is often used for ongoing recovery after inpatient care, minor injuries, or for patients who don’t require around-the-clock supervision.

Choosing the right path depends on your medical needs, level of independence, and recovery goals. At Reunion Rehabilitation Hospitals, our care teams evaluate each patient to determine the best program for a safe and effective recovery. Learn more by visiting our website: https://ow.ly/lEmt50XflnO

From Marine to Miracle: Brice’s Story of Strength and Recovery

At just 25 years old, Marine veteran Brice Chaidez was active, healthy, and working full-time when his life changed in an instant. After being struck head-on by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle, Brice was rushed to the hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries, including fractures to his arms, pelvis, back, and legs, along with internal injuries requiring several surgeries.

When Brice arrived at Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital Peoria, he could barely tolerate sitting up for more than ten minutes and required total assistance for all aspects of care. But with the support of his care team, including physical therapist Lisa Brinton and occupational therapist Chloe Charski, Brice set small, achievable goals each day, gradually building strength, endurance, and hope.

Day by day, he progressed from using a mechanical lift to transferring with a slide board and finally, walking with a walker. After 46 days of determination, perseverance, and teamwork, Brice walked out of Reunion fully independent.

Today, he continues therapy as an outpatient and is already looking forward to walking without his walker and returning to the active life he loves. Brice and his family are deeply grateful for the entire Reunion Peoria team, who helped him rebuild his independence and confidence.

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, we would like to highlight the significant role mental health plays in rehabilitation. Recovery after a serious injury, surgery, or illness is both physically and emotionally demanding. Patients are often coping with pain, fatigue, and uncertainty about their future. Without mental health support, these emotional challenges can slow progress, increase the risk of setbacks, and affect overall quality of life.

At Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital, we take a holistic approach to care. Our teams help patients manage stress, build resilience, and stay engaged with therapy. By addressing mental health needs alongside physical recovery, patients can:

🔵 Stay motivated and consistent with therapy
🔵 Reduce the risk of depression and anxiety-related setbacks
🔵 Improve sleep and energy levels
🔵 Build confidence to return to daily life

A healthy mind fuels a healthy body, and together, they lead to improved rehabilitation outcomes.
