Thrilled to receive this testimonial! Keep rocking it, Buddy!!

"Our son was born in October and four days after his birth we received a surprise diagnosis of Down syndrome. We were shocked and felt lost on where to go from there and how to help our son in the best way possible. We connected with several therapists at Shine Therapy and they’ve paved the way for us! Our first service we started was physical therapy with Michelle.....Michelle is so friendly to work with and her care and compassion really shine through as she works with him. We have seen him make such big strides since starting therapy a few months ago.

We are also working with Kristin for Feeding Therapy. Kristin has been so encouraging to me with my breast-feeding goals. When we started out, I was unsure of if Dominic would be able to ever primarily breast-feed or not and Kristin was so encouraging, and also reassuring that whichever avenue Dominic takes will be the best avenue for him. I am always uplifted during our appointments that I’m making good choices with our son’s care and always feel rejuvenated that what we’ve done over the past month helped put us in the right direction.... I am excited to say that Dominic is primarily breast-feeding and that we did achieve our goal in that aspect. We are just beginning our occupational therapy journey and we are excited to see where that takes us!

We have been so impressed by Shine Therapy and plan to recommend them to anyone that we may encounter that needs therapy services in this area."

Spring Cleaning? Getting ready for Summer Chaos? Clearing out some toys? Consider donating to our Toy Recycle Program!

Play is a child's work, so toys become some of our "tools" for therapy! Our Toy Recycle Program allows therapists to leave toys with the family to use to practice therapy strategies. Toys that are 'new' to the child are often also the most motivating- so these donations do double duty!

Use our *new* Toy Recycle Program link to let us know that you're interested! We will reply through email. Our donation shelves are currently VERY EMPTY so we have room for plenty at this time!

Some of our most popular donations: shape sorters, potato head, vehicles, trains, books, puzzles, Megablocks/duplo, Melissa & Doug toys, baby & accessories!

We miss Erin ❤️ ☘️

Erin Timian was our Director of the Speech Department. She passed away early in 2023, and there are no words to express how much we miss her at Shine. Erin's passion for the field of pediatric speech therapy was an inspiration to us all. Thanks to our office manager, Lisa Howard, we remember her daily! Lisa created all of these to surround the door of Room 1 at the Shine Clinic- most commonly used for our Speech Therapy sessions ❤️

Erin loved her son Will, husband Ben, her parents and brother... her dogs... swimming...her BMW....high heels....whiskey... she was Peoria's Irish Princess! If you miss Erin, please drop a memory of her below.

Cheers To Erin.....🍻SLAINTE!

📣 Let's hear it for Shine SLP & AAC Specialist Stephanie!

🥳Stephanie has special interest and training in Augmentative Communication Devices (think touch talkers: computer tablets/apps that nonverbal individuals can use to aid communication). They joined Shine in 2023, and have worked hard to develop this niche in the community over the past 2 years.

🗣Here's how her clients inspire Stephanie: I love building relationships with the kids, understanding how they like to play and connect with other people, and getting to hear them share their thoughts and feelings as their confidence and communication skills grow. It's also why I love AAC, since many kids can communicate more clearly and easily when they have the opportunity to learn a communication device.

🧶Favorite hobby/activity: Crocheting, listening to music, going to concerts, strength training.

📘Favorite local kid activity: Library programs!

🌟Shining Star Testimonial 🌟

"We have had Sara for both of our boy and they love her. They see her car pull up and get so excited! Our youngest Wyatt calls her Nana because he can’t say Sara yet. She brings her bag of toys and Wyatt gets so excited to see what’s in the bag he doesn’t even wait for her to take her shoes off before he is pulling toys out. She has been a huge help in our lives the past almost 2 years and we are so thankful to have her! She will definitely be missed when Wyatt turns 2." ~Samantha

Celebrating 🥳 our very own Miss Rachel!

Here's a bit more from Rachel:

☀ Favorite Strategy to use in Speech Therapy: Following your Child's Lead! Doing what the child enjoys is so valuable: it develops the connections between children and their parents! Amazing.
☀Favorite Hobby/Activity: I enjoy being outside with my favorite child, my dog Roscoe! I also love reading a few minutes each night before bed.
☀ Favorite Local Restaurant: Date nights to Haynes on Main in Mackinaw
☀ Rachel is Most Inspired By: the investment families have in their kids' development and how communicating more easily improves their family connections

Our Story

Shine started out as one therapist with a dream! In 2005, owner Sarah Ziemba started providing in home therapy to children under her own name, after working for a local non-for-profit therapy center and as an early childhood speech pathologist at a local school. As the years passed (quickly!) Sarah began hiring therapists and operating under the name Shine Therapy Services in 2011. In 2015, Kristin Faulkner joined the company as a co-owner and we acquired a clinic space- and the ability to add more therapists!

Our mission is two-fold: to provide high quality, evidence based services to children and families AND to provide a supportive, flexible workplace for therapists and staff. In 2017, we had a total of 587 children receive services through Shine and in July 2018 we moved to a new, larger location to accommodate our growing business! Shine now provides the following therapy services in our clinic, in homes, daycares and other community locations: speech, feeding, nutrition, occupational, physical and developmental therapy as well as Spanish-English interpretation and translation. We are excited about our future as a pediatric private practice in Peoria, IL.
