A few weeks ago Dr. Agarwal, PGY-3 gave a grand rounds presentation joining her past education in design engineering with her passion for surgery.

Dr. Agarwal discussed the intersections between the two and the lessons we can apply from engineering into our work as physicians. She highlighted the importance of thinking outside the box and how important creativity is to drive innovation inside and outside of the OR.

Thank you for the wonderful and insightful presentation, Dr. Agarwal! 👏👏👏

For our final intern spotlight, we have Dr. Bhakti Dixit!

Medical school: University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences

Hometown and Family: I was born in a northern suburb outside of Chicago before moving to Toledo, Ohio, where I grew up with my 2 younger siblings, who are a lot of fun to be around. After finishing undergrad at Youngstown State University, I returned home to pursue my master’s and start medical school. Being back in Toledo allowed me to be closer to my family, who is a huge part of my support system. Plus, I met my amazing boyfriend Jacob in medical school in anatomy lab during our M1 year. Now with starting residency, it feels like a full circle moment to be back in Illinois. Toledo will still hold a special place in my heart, and I get really excited when people recognize it!

Fun fact: I believe that any dog can be a lap dog :) and costco cake the best!

Hobbies: photosynthesizing outside in the sun, eating ice cream, going on walks, (eating ice cream while going on walks which makes the ice cream 0 calories), reading, watching reality TV, hanging out with friends.

Welcome to the family, Dr. Dixit! 👏👏👏

Meet another one of our interns, Dr. Alexis Pullizzi!

Medical School: I attended Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in North Carolina. Where I had the privilege of working with many underserved communities, including migrant farm workers.

Hometown and Family: I’m originally from Warren, Michigan, a suburb just outside of Detroit, where I was actively involved in gymnastics, Allstar cheerleading, track, and had the honor of leading my high school cheer team to a district championship. I also spent much of my childhood in Oscoda, Michigan, where I developed a deep appreciation for the beach, wilderness, and life on the water, all of which continue to inspire the things I love to do today. I now live with my amazing husband and our three fur babies, Lily, Rory, and Callie, who bring endless joy to my life. You can catch a glimpse of our little crew on TikTok

Fun Fact: I love plants! It’s incredible to see what can grow with just a little sunshine, water, and love. I have the same philosophy for people.

Hobbies: My hobbies include baking, gardening, hiking, traveling, and designing home renovation projects for my husband to bring to life.

Welcome to the family, Dr. Pullizzi 👏👏👏

Continuing our intern spotlights, today we introduce Dr. Zack Griffin!

Med School: East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine

Hometown and Family: I was born in Houston, TX and raised in Kingsport, TN—home of sweet tea, breathtaking mountains, and more Cracker Barrels than Starbucks. My wife, Mandy, is also an intern here at UICOMP, so my home has no shortage of caffeine. My parents, Mark and Jennifer, are business owners and my younger brother, Will, is a student at the University of Tennessee preparing for law school.

Fun Fact: While hiking in Banff, Alberta, I found myself face-to-face with a massive grizzly bear—six miles from the nearest human. Fortunately, he was more interested in the berries he was eating than evaluating my wilderness first aid skills.

Hobbies: I enjoy fresh water and salt water fishing and was once proudly sponsored by a fishing gear company—which made it slightly more justifiable to spend hours chasing fish. I also custom build and play guitars and spent several years performing in a band. Music and the outdoors have always helped keep me grounded, focused, and balanced.

Welcome to the family, Dr. Griffin! 👏👏👏
