In a mouse study, researchers inhibited the pro-inflammatory protein interleukin-11 and found that it resulted in a large increase in lifespan. This research builds on many previous studies examining the role of inflammation (“inflammaging”) in the body, and while a drug to inhibit interleukin-11 is not available in humans, many lifestyle choices can be anti-inflammatory. KetoFLEX 12/3 is an anti-inflammatory diet, for example. https://www.prevention.com/health/a61701198/anti-aging-therapy-extends-life-by-25-percent-study

New research published in the Annals of Neurology has found that following the MIND diet – a diet combining the Mediterranean and Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diets – can help slow down biological aging and reduce your risk of dementia. The diet, which focuses on vegetables (both leafy and non-leafy), nuts, beans, berries, lean poultry, fish, and whole grains, helps with many age-related issues including chronic low-grade inflammation, which also drives cognitive deterioration and dementia.

There is a lot of overlap between the MIND diet and our KetoFLEX 12/3 program, with a couple factors like introducing a fast and reducing grain intake making KetoFLEX 12/3 better for brain health. https://www.health.com/mind-diet-slow-aging-reduce-dementia-risk-8623073

Recently, I shared research about a 14% increased risk of dementia from eating small amounts of processed red meat, but swapping that with daily servings of nuts or legumes can lower risk by 20%!

There's no single cure-all food for dementia, but a good diet can help a lot.

Is everyone taking their Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 and staying on it year-round? Most patients who only took it in the winter, except for one person last year, had inadequate levels (less than 35). One woman taking a multivitamin with only 600 IU had levels in the 60s, but she took it year-round and worked in her garden year-round. However, many patients who garden year-round still had low levels.

It seems that everyone, except those with Sarcoidosis, benefits from at least 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 with 100 mcg of Vitamin K2. The D3 increases calcium absorption from the intestines, while the K2 directs it to bones instead of arteries or kidneys.

A new patient suggested that sunscreen use might be the cause, but I doubt surfers are reapplying sunscreen every hour. They used to have levels of 80 naturally, but now they only reach the 60s. If sunscreen is the reason, then it’s important to protect yourself from skin cancer and take your Vitamin D3 with K2.

We offer three levels of D3 with K2 in the office: 2000 IU, 5000 IU, and 10,000 IU, all with 100 mcg of K2. We also have a daily D3 with K2 product containing 5000 IU D3, 180 mcg K2, and herbs to improve focus and concentration. One patient reported better memory since taking it, saying she can now remember what she went into a room for. We call it Daily D for ADHD, but remember, supplements shouldn't claim to treat specific diseases or conditions, even though that’s often their effect. We called it that, so we’d remember…

POLL Which version are you taking and please don’t stop because it’s summer. You still need it.

We recently went to a new medical record system called Praxis. It does have a portal and we plan to launch a new website this month and through that will explain how to access it. We are very excited about this new website and I hope everyone finds it to be very informative and up to date.
