Games provide a great reason to get together and enjoy social interaction, which is especially important for seniors with dementia. Some games are even used to treat cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Games can stimulate cognitive function in seniors with varying stages of dementia. In fact, playing games is even known to slow the progression of dementia.

Yesterday, a few residents played a quick round of Roll & Cover! This dice game involves rolling 2 dice then covering the matching number on their game board. The first person to cover all their numbers wins! Congratulations to Donna for being the winner! The residents enjoyed this simple but fun game and have requested to play again!

Reusable water paintings are the perfect activity for our residents! The canvas starts off blank, but with a little bit of water, a beautiful picture will appear! It's a mess-free activity that helps to relieve anxiety and stress, exercises their imagination and creativity and encourages socialization by painting with friends. Once the resident is done, the pictures will dry and slowly evaporate so they are able to use again and again!

National Johnny Appleseed Day is celebrated twice a year, on March 11 and September 26. The March 11 date is often chosen because it coincides with apple planting season, while the September 26 date marks the birthday of the American folk hero John "Johnny Appleseed" Chapman. Both days celebrate his legacy as an American nurseryman who spread apple trees across the Midwest and his contributions as an early American conservationist.
