It's National Farmers Market Week and we're kicking off the week with a taste test of different jams and jellies! Tomorrow we'll be sampling delicious breads and butters. 🍞

Every 65 seconds another person is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Another family is thrown into chaos having been given little or no instruction in providing care. Today, four out of five of those families fracture under the stress of caring for a family member
who lives with Alzheimer's or related dementias. Relationships are broken, often never to be mended. How do we minister to these families?

Caregivers have taught us that a key to surviving the caregiving experience is coming face to face with others living similar lives. There is power in being with those who understand. Support groups ... formal or informal ... offer this power. They offer help,
hope, and a particular healing that comes only when heart aches and hard lessons are shared. They offer life-saving laughter, forever friendships, and the peace that comes from knowing you are not alone. A support group is often the caregiver's greatest source of comfort and empowerment —the surest road to survival.

Join us for Donuts and Dementia: Discussion and Informational Meeting on August 26th beginning at 10:30am. This support group will be hosted by VITAS Healthcare. We offer a safe and supportive space for you to connect, share experiences and learn from others. This event is free and open to the public.

Orville Clarence Redenbacher was born on this day in 1907. He was an American food scientist and businessman most often associated with the brand of popcorn that bears his name which is now owned by Conagra Brands. The New York Times described him as "the agricultural visionary who all but single-handedly revolutionized the American popcorn industry".

Today, we celebrated with a popcorn social in our Four Seasons Lounge! 🍿

John Stith Pemberton was born on July 8, 1831. He was an American pharmacist and Confederate States Army veteran who is best known as the inventor of Coca-Cola. On May 8, 1886, he developed an early version of a beverage that would later become Coca-Cola, but sold the rights to the drink shortly before his death in 1888.

Yesterday, we sampled a few Coca-Cola products including Cherry Coca-Cola, Orange Cream Coca-Cola, and of course the original Coca-Cola during our Happy Hour.

June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, when those whose lives have been touched by memory-impairing diseases come together and raise awareness through education and support. Today is the summer solstice and the longest day of sunshine and light during the calendar year.

Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia affect over five million individuals in the United States alone. If we continue this current trajectory, this number is expected to triple by the year 2050. The impact of Alzheimer’s on individuals and those who love them is astounding. Memory, personality, problem solving, safety awareness, decision making, relationships – all these things and more are affected through no fault or choice of the individual. For families, this can feel like a loss that never seems to end.

While dementia is incredibly challenging for everyone involved, there are ways that each one of us can bring light to the darkness. 💜

Today, our residents indulged in a variety of cheeses and crackers paired with some grapes and enjoyed a glass of blueberry or pineapple wine! 🍷

The Four Seasons Lounge was full and it was determined that the overall favorite cheese today was Cinnamon Cranberry Goat Cheese!
