April is Autism Acceptance Month, and we’re continuing to highlight mission partners who make a difference for children and families across our region.

This week, we’re featuring Amber Weil, MSW, Autism Complex Care Navigator with OSF Autism Pathways. Amber has been part of OSF HealthCare since 2011 and brings years of experience and compassion to the families she serves.

In her role, Amber connects with parents who may be struggling and helps guide them toward resources and support. She finds meaning in offering hope during difficult moments and values the opportunity to learn from each family’s unique experiences and needs.

Outside of work, Amber enjoys spending time with her family and shopping.

OSF Autism Pathways provides resources and support to help children with autism and their families navigate care with confidence.

Trusting us with one miracle is an honor – trusting us with two is a responsibility we never take lightly. 🤍

Today, we’re sharing Michelle Vasquez’s powerful story. When both of her babies required NICU care, our team didn't just see patients; we saw a family that needed a village. Watching these two grow from tiny fighters to thriving graduates is why we do what we do.

Thank you, Michelle, for allowing us to be part of your family’s journey. 🏥✨

🌻 This spring, we’re rooting for your little ones to bloom and feel their absolute best!

Between the chaos of the season, it’s easy for check-ups to take a backseat - but these moments are the perfect opportunity to nurture their growth. Giving them that extra bit of care today ensures they have the vibrant, healthy future they deserve.

Our ThinkFirst team has been busy across the region bringing Operation Prom Night to area schools to help students make safe choices as prom season approaches.

Students at Elmwood/Brimfield High School, Washington High School and Henry-Senachwine High School recently took part in a crash re-enactment that included OSF Life Flight. The powerful demonstration showed how quickly lives can change in a motor vehicle crash and highlighted the importance of safe decision-making behind the wheel.

Operation Prom Night is part of the OSF HealthCare ThinkFirst program and focuses on one simple message: THINK FIRST before you drive, ride or make a choice that could impact your future.

We’re grateful to work alongside incredible community partners who help make these events possible. It truly takes all of us working together to keep our communities safe.

We’ll wrap up this season with one more crash exercise in Delavan.

As prom season gets underway, remember: one decision can change everything.

More than 500 students across Central Illinois are now equipped with a life saving skill that can make all the difference in an emergency.

The OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Advocacy team, along with Mission Partners from Champaign and Danville and University of Illinois interns, spent the day at Tuscola High School and East Prairie Middle School teaching Hands-only CPR and AED education.

At Broadmoor Junior High in Pekin, Jordan Meeks, pediatric wellness specialist, also led a session with the Life Skills class, marking her third year teaching the group.

Hands-only CPR has been shown to be just as effective as conventional CPR and can double or even triple survival chances when someone goes into cardiac arrest.

The goal of the OSF Children’s Hospital Advocacy team is simple: equip as many young people as possible with this life saving knowledge and confidence to act. To schedule a Hands-only CPR and AED education session for your class or school next year, contact Jordan Meeks at Jordan.b.meeks@osfhealthcare.org.

Families in Central Illinois have a new option for specialized pediatric care đź’™

OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois has opened a Pediatric Aerodigestive Clinic in Peoria, bringing coordinated, expert care together in one place for children with complex airway and upper digestive tract conditions.

These conditions can impact breathing, eating and swallowing and often require care from multiple specialists. Instead of navigating several appointments across different locations, families can now access a multidisciplinary team in one setting, helping improve coordination, communication and care planning.

The clinic brings together pediatric specialists, a nurse navigator and additional support services to streamline evaluations and treatment for patients and families.

It is the only program of its kind between Chicago and St. Louis, helping families in Central Illinois receive advanced pediatric care while staying closer to home.

The clinic is now seeing patients at the OSF Children’s Hospital Multidisciplinary Clinic space at 530 NE Glen Oak Ave. in Peoria.

Big news for families in our region 📣

Earlier this week, OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois celebrated a major milestone with the dedication of the future Pediatric Specialty Care Center at 800 NE Glen Oak Ave., just steps from the main hospital and connected internally.

Set to open in spring 2027, the center will bring pediatric specialty services together in one convenient location, including cardiology, neurology, pulmonology and urology, along with on-site imaging and lab services. The goal is to make care more coordinated, more efficient and easier for families navigating complex needs.

During Tuesday’s ceremony, leaders, Mission Partners and guests also took part in creating a time capsule that will be opened 10 years after the center opens, capturing this moment in OSF history.

We’re excited to see this vision take shape for children and families across our region 💙

To the team behind every test, every result and every life-changing answer — this week is for you 🧪

National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is April 19–25, and we are celebrating the laboratorians who keep health care moving forward every day. From diagnosis to treatment decisions, your work plays a vital role in every patient’s journey.

This year’s theme, inspired by Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story, is a fun reminder that just like Andy’s toys, you show up every day ready to make a difference — working together, supporting one another and always going to infinity and beyond for our patients.

Thank you for your dedication, precision and commitment to excellence. You truly are the heroes behind the scenes.

Looking for a change of scenery? 🦋

This Earth Day, we encourage our patients and their families to take a moment to recharge in the Jerry and Lynn Flaherty Family Respite Garden.

Whether you’re looking for a serene spot to meditate, an inviting place to feel the sun on your skin, or just a deep breath of fresh air away from the monitors – the garden is open for you.

We had a special visitor!

A huge thank you goes out to the Peoria Rivermen for stopping by to brighten our patients' day with toys and smiles all around. 🏒💙
