Netflix released the second season of “13 Reasons Why” on May 18, 2018. Season one controversially and graphically covered the topics of su***de, bullying, violence, and more. While it helped begin much needed conversations on these important topics, the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry believes it is important to provide support including mental health, parental and adult guidance, as well as how to seek help in these discussions for more positive outcomes. For this reason, AACAP offers resources in hopes of helping children and families at the time of season two’s release. All of the resources below can be accessed via the following link. And do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns about these topics as they may pertain to yourself, your child, or someone else you care about.

I first heard about the "Blue Whale Challenge" a few months ago but I didn't think much of it because it was disputed whether this "game" actually had led to the su***des of several children. Well now it is being reported that two American teens have completed su***de as a result of this form of manipulation over social media. Here's some information about the "Blue Whale Challenge" in case you have not heard of it until now. As always, be suspicious of any unusual or sudden changes in your child's behavior and seek help if you ever suspect dangerous or risky behavior.

The Blue Whale Challenge is a list of 50 tasks given to willing participants. At least two teens in the U.S. may have committed su***de after playing.

Thank you all for your support! 😊 A few of you have had similar questions that I would like to answer. I am still working full-time at Windsor Laurelwood Hospital, but starting this private practice is something that I needed to do to avoid burning out. I decided to make my practice a self-pay practice, just like the other practitioners with whom I share office space. That means I do not accept any forms of health insurance. I will however gladly help my patients file for any out-of-network benefits they may have. Also there is no wait time for an appointment with me, as opposed to waiting an average of 2-3 months to see an in-network child psychiatrist. I see children as young as 6 years old and young adults who are up to 23-24 years old.

In my career, I have found that insurance companies often create barriers to psychiatric treatment as opposed to facilitating it. I am excited to have this opportunity to practice psychiatry freely and without unnecessary restrictions, as I believe this will result in the best care for my patients.

More information about my experience, my practice and my treatment philosophy can be found on my website: NoahMillerMD.com
