The Society for Integrative Oncology is a non-profit, multidisciplinary organization established in 2003 to advance evidence-based, comprehensive, integrative healthcare to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. The Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary organization founded in 2003 for health professionals committed to the study and application of complementary therapies and botanicals for cancer patients. It provides a convenient forum for presentation, discussion and peer review of evidence-based research and treatment modalities in the discipline known as integrative medicine. It makes a clear distinction between "alternative" or unproven and "complementary" or tested useful therapies in cancer care.Integrative oncology is a seamless rapprochement of interventions that benefit cancer patients. Because a constantly growing number of cancer patients throughout the world turn to both alternative and complementary therapies as part of their cancer treatment plan, it is essential that oncologists have ready access to information about research, existing treatment programs, and both the benefits and dangers of the wide range of complementary therapies available today. The Society for Integrative Oncology has partnered with CancerChoices to develop the attached Integrative Oncology eBook. It is for any person affected by any type of cancer - patients, caregivers, and the professionals that treat and help them - but it was designed primarily to be a resource for patients and caregivers. This eBook includes universal concepts that should help patients no matter where in the world they are.

It was specifically designed to be a foundational resource to accomplish the following:

1. Describe what integrative oncology is;
2. Define many of the terms patients may hear related to integrative oncology;
3. Explain the numerous benefits of this approach to cancer care;
4. Present the guidelines aligning therapies to symptom management;
5. Offer resources from sources that are rooted in science; and,
6. Give patients practical tips for how to afford and work integrative practices into their lives.
7. SIO hopes that it will help empower people affected by cancer to improve their well-being and treatment outcomes.

Submit Sleep Guideline Panelist Nominations Today!

The SIO in collaboration with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is seeking nominations for the expert panel to develop a clinical practice guideline on integrative approaches to manage cancer-related sleep disturbances.

We invite clinicians, researchers, patient advocates, and integrative oncology professionals with relevant expertise to submit their interest. Panel members will be expected to dedicate time for regular meetings to develop searches and synthesize the results of the systematic review, discuss the structure of the guideline, and to formulate consensus recommendations including the development of a scientific manuscript.
