Did you know that today is National Flossing Day? To celebrate, we’re raising awareness about the benefits of consistent flossing. Join us and check out these facts:

1) Flossing between your teeth helps dislodge food and bacteria that your toothbrush can’t reach, even if you try really hard!

2) Without a good flossing session, bacteria would accumulate in those hard-to-reach places, putting you at greater risk of gum disease and cavities.

3) Nowadays, you don’t have to use traditional threaded floss if you don’t want to! Oral irrigators, or water flossers, are also a great way to clean your smile.

Do you have any flossing facts to add to our list? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to clean between your teeth today!

Thanksgiving is this week, and hopefully, you’ve made some food-related plans with your closest family and friends. However, are you aware that several traditional Thanksgiving dishes are high in sugar and starches, which can harm your smile?

Luckily, there’s no need to sound the alarm and change up your menu – as long as you remember to brush and floss before going to bed, you’re giving your smile the edge it needs to fight off cavities and remain healthy and bright.

Colder weather is just around the corner, and with colder weather comes sickness – meaning if you’re one of the millions of people who suffer from the flu this time of year, you should make sure that you swap out your current toothbrush for a new one after the virus has run its course!

Bacteria can accumulate on the bristles and cause reinfection, so don’t hesitate to swap out the head of your electric toothbrush or buy a new manual toothbrush for a healthier smile.

Of course, if you haven’t been sick and it’s been three months since you last updated your toothbrush, now’s the time to do so!

We're curious - manual or electric? Which toothbrush do you prefer? Let us know down in the comments!

Even though dental emergencies can occur at any time or any place, many experts agree that there’s a noticeable increase in these situations during the holiday season. Toothaches, chipped or broken teeth, and lost crowns and fillings headline a long list of dental disasters that can pop up and dampen your holiday spirit.

All the more reason to make sure that your dental health is in pristine condition as we enter this time of year – and that means keeping up with your at-home dental hygiene, as well as keeping up with your dental visits. A healthy smile is far less likely to encounter a dental emergency, period.

Happy Friday! Hopefully, you have something fun planned this weekend – or maybe you’re just hoping to kick back, relax, and prepare yourself for the upcoming holiday season. Either way, be sure you’re taking a spare moment to check on your smile.

In addition to brushing and flossing daily, it never hurts to examine your teeth and gums yourself to check for any apparent issues – don’t tend to your smile while on autopilot!

Of course, this doesn’t mean you can get away with not visiting the dentist. If you haven’t attended a dental checkup in the last six months, it’s definitely time!

Whether you’re working out, sitting at the office or school, or simply relaxing at home, it’s always important to ensure that your body is properly hydrated. Drinking enough water on a daily basis is the secret to this – but did you know one primary health benefit of hydration is cavity protection?

Not only does the act of drinking wash away lingering food debris, but water can also activate your mouth’s salivary glands, which are your body’s number one defense against harmful oral bacteria. Needless to say, this doesn't mean you can skip brushing; however, it does mean you can fortify your smile by drinking plenty of water!

How do you ensure that you’re staying hydrated throughout the day?

Other than maintaining bright and healthy teeth, you should also want to ensure that you’re keeping your gums clean – they also help to regulate your dental health! But unfortunately, studies show that most tooth loss in adults over the age of 35 is a direct result of periodontal disease.

To help preserve all of your pearly whites, don’t shrug off the value of flossing – while brushing is important too, flossing after every meal can make an undeniably massive difference when it comes to preventing the progression of gum disease.

Many people are surprised to learn that tooth enamel is actually the hardest material in the human body! Enamel serves as the outermost protective layer of your teeth, keeping them resilient and sparkling bright.

However, as mighty as your enamel may be, it isn’t entirely indestructible. Harmful oral bacteria can compromise and weaken it, causing your teeth to develop cavities or develop worse issues over time.

To keep your tooth enamel fortified, dental hygiene is the name of the game. That means daily brushing, daily flossing, and semiannual dental checkups!
