Sixty years ago, a young and strapping Michael was stationed at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware. He and his friends often visited Sambo’s, a well-loved crab restaurant and bar. One day, Michael decided to take home a small souvenir—one of the restaurant’s ashtrays. He kept it with him for six decades.

Recently, when Michael learned that his physical therapist, Evan, would be heading to the Delaware beaches, he asked him to return the ashtray to its original home. At the end of August, while traveling with his family to Bethany Beach, Evan made a special stop at Sambo’s. There, he shared Michael’s story with the owner, her husband, and several longtime staff members. They were deeply moved by the gesture and grateful to see a piece of their history return. To honor Michael, they gave Evan a Sambo’s T-shirt to pass along to him, and they plan to display the ashtray on the wall alongside his story.

Now, after 60 years, the ashtray is back where it belongs—at Sambo’s, which is proudly celebrating its 72nd anniversary.

At Forward Motion Physical Therapy, we believe our work is about more than just healing injuries—it’s about caring for the whole person. Sometimes, that even means driving three hours to return a piece of their history. 💙

What a great weekend. What an amazing race .After months of training in preparation for "The Escape from Alcatraz "next week in San Francisco. Today we completed - The escape the Cape- triathlon in New Jersey. After getting up at 4:00AM we made our way on to the Cape May ferry to jump off and swim one mile back to shore , then the 23 mile bike ride, followed by the road/beach/SAND run. WE all had amazing races overcoming the crazy waves and current, we actually felt seasick swimming, along with the soft deep sand that really made those legs burn after a fast and flat bike ride we finished with smiles, memories and stories that inspire us to look for the next challenge. My training came together on race day and I had the perfect race, finishing first in my age group 1st. Now Kim Barwick, Stephanie Macejko and I are headed to San Francisco on Thursday for the Legendary Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon a week from today. Gina Milillo Harriz is preparing for Jones Beach 70.3 in September, and Debbie Goulian is crushing it as she also won her age group today. So grateful for Kim who comes up with these crazy ideas and for you bad ass ladies for being crazy enough to agree to say yes to keep her company with me. Next week is a longer swim, 1.5 miles in the San Fancisco bay, a very hilly 18 miles bike ride and an 8 mile killer run also with a ton of stair and 400 steps. Ill be resting up and will l be ready!
