We are beyond proud to share that Kylie has officially completed level 6 of the Barton Reading and Spelling System AND graduated from speech therapy! 🎉 📚

Just a couple of years ago, reading and spelling felt like a mountain, and writing tasks were a daily challenge. Today, she is soaring! Watching her gain confidence, improve her reading fluency, and master complex reading patterns has been a joy.

As February comes to an end, we want to take a moment to highlight this special little lady. Today is Rare Disease Day and February is Noonan Syndrome Awareness month. 🧬 💙

Noonan Syndrome is a rare genetic condition that can affect many parts of the body— from heart health to growth and development. It affects roughly 1 in 2,500 people and can involve a wide spectrum of symptoms. Because it’s a spectrum, every journey is unique. 🌟

Speech and language delays are common in children with Noonan Syndrome, but this little warrior has taught us so much about patience, courage, and perseverance. She is now babbling, producing different sounds, and signing words/requests consistently! We are so proud of how far she has come!🗣️🤟🏼

Today we celebrate her strength and the unique light she brings to this world! 🩷💜

Ankyloglossia has long been described as simply a “tight frenulum.” That definition is incomplete.

In our 2025 publication, we define ankyloglossia as restricted tongue mobility caused by tethered oral tissues that contributes to broader orofacial myofunctional dysfunction.

This shift matters.

Tongue restriction is not just structural. It interacts with breathing, swallowing, speech, craniofacial growth, posture, and neuromuscular compensation. When we define the condition correctly, we diagnose and treat it more precisely.

Our updated definition reflects a whole-system, airway-centered model grounded in functional assessment, therapy integration, and refined surgical technique when indicated.

Before reaching for ADHD medication, pause and ask a more basic question:

How does this child breathe and sleep?

Snoring, restless sleep, mouth breathing, and daytime inattention can look exactly like ADHD because sleep disordered breathing and ADHD share near identical symptom profiles.

A significant proportion of children labelled with ADHD are actually chronically sleep deprived due to airway obstruction.

Same behaviours.
Different cause.
Very different treatment pathway.

Screen the airway first.

💚Vocabulary: Use "holiday words" like heart, envelope, and sparkly.
🧡Sequencing: Talk through the steps: "First we fold, then we write, last we glue".
💙Social Skills: Practice giving compliments: "I like your smile" or "You are kind"
💛Follow Directions: “Draw a red heart on the front" or "Put the card in the box"

Congratulations to our final graduate of the month! 👩🏻‍🎓 This milestone marks the shift from mealtime stress to mealtime success. ✨

Through feeding therapy, toddlers gain essential skills like:

-Positive routines that make family dinners enjoyable again

We are starting 2026 with a huge win! 🏆 Huge congratulations to two of our January OM graduates! 🩵🤍🖤

While we are celebrating the end of daily exercises, we’re even more excited for their future. We started this journey to fix concerns with mouth breathing and teeth grinding, but the results are so much bigger. From mastering proper tongue rest posture to perfecting nasal breathing, they both worked so hard to build healthy habits. Investing in these habits today means a healthier tomorrow! So so proud of the hard work and dedication that they put in! 👩🏻‍🎓 👨🏼‍🎓
