⭐️ GRADUATION TIME ⭐️

This one is pretty bittersweet (they all are, who are we kidding?!). This little babe was working on his feeding and swallowing skills and overall oral function. We worked on strengthening and improving coordination of the muscles in his lips, tongue, cheeks, and jaw, which are vital for developing efficient feeding skills, speech, and overall oral health. AND we are happy to report baby is eating better, growing well, and now mom is returning to work! ❀️
Congratulations to Beckett and his family πŸ₯° πŸ‘πŸ»

We love when pieces come together and goals are met. Watching moms and babes grow together is one of our favorites πŸ’ž πŸ‘ΆπŸ» 🍼 🀱🏼

The tongue plays a key role in guiding proper facial growth and development.
When it rests on the roof of the mouth and moves well, it helps form wide dental arches, supports airway health, and promotes balanced facial structure. πŸ¦·πŸ‘ƒ

But when tongue function is limited β€” whether due to a restricted range of motion (like in a tongue tie), low muscle tone, etc β€” it can impact:
πŸ”Ή Jaw and facial development
πŸ”Ή Tooth alignment
πŸ”Ή Breathing and sleep
πŸ”Ή Long-term oral function

At The Breathe Institute, we take a functional approach β€” addressing the root causes to support healthy growth from the inside out.

Ever wonder how we got our name? πŸ©΅πŸ€πŸ–€

Here is a hint! In these pictures, we are practicing putting our tongue β€œon spot.” This is one of the first things we learn when doing orofacial myofunctional therapy.

1. The tip of your tongue should rest just behind the front teeth, but shouldn’t be touching them ⬆️

2. The middle and posterior part of our tongue should be in light contact with the roof of the mouth πŸ‘…

3. The teeth should be slightly apart 🦷

4. The lips should be resting gently together πŸ‘„

Why is this important? Maintaining this posture can help with correct nasal breathing and create optimal dental and facial development.

‼️ Where is your tongue resting right now? ‼️

‼️ Where is your tongue resting right now? ‼️

Where does your tongue rest when you’re not speaking or eating?
It might seem like a small detail, but tongue posture plays a major role in proper facial development, airway health, and long-term wellness.

A high tongue posture (resting gently on the roof of the mouth with light suction) supports ideal jaw growth, proper palate formation, and optimal breathingβ€”especially through the nose.

A low tongue posture, on the other hand, can contribute to a narrow palate, airway issues, and dysfunctional breathing patterns over time.

This is foundational for:
β€’ Facial growth & symmetry
β€’ Proper nasal breathing
β€’ Reducing risk of sleep-disordered breathing
β€’ Oral function and speech

It all starts with rest.
Train the tongue. Support the airway. Guide the growth.

Happy 2nd Work-Anniversary to Darriean!! This amazing colleague and friend... this simply kind, gentle, and dedicated SLP... we cannot thank her enough for what she has brought to the On Spot Team! Her collaborations, her expertise, her guidance, and her commitment to giving the best care to her clients is simply admirable. The Fargo office misses seeing her each day, but boy, we are so happy that our new clinic in Perham is absolutely thriving because of her! Congratulations on TWO YEARS at On Spot Therapy, Darriean!πŸ₯³πŸ‘
