Founding Nile’s Project

Carole and Ty Moss established Nile’s Project MRSA in 2007 a non-profit (501-C3) Public Awareness and Educational Organization after the unexpected death of their teenage son Nile Calvin Moss who was 15 years young. Nile was exposed to MRSA at the top Children’s hospital in Orange County California while undergoing an annual series of test and died just after he left the hospital and 48 hours after the first signs of the flu. They share the lessons learned from their son’s tragic death, and words of hope that infectious deaths caused by MRSA and Sepsis can be prevented through simple practices. Paying strict attention to hand hygiene, deep environmental cleaning, rapid testing, antibiotic stewardship and proven hospital prevention techniques is key to reducing infection rates. Nile’s Project Foundation promotes Public Awareness through Concerts, Trade Shows, Speaking Engagements and many Public Events. Carole and Ty have worked tirelessly with leaders focused on patient safety, building strong relationships with the CDC, Consumers Union Safe Patient Project, Technologists, and Specialist in Infection Prevention building alliances that result in live saving changes. In 2007 Senator Elaine Alquist sponsored legislation (SB1058) that was named “NILE’S LAW” after Nile Moss and Senator Dean Florez (SB158) CA Infection Prevention Bills, both signed into law Sept 2008 and effective starting Jan.1 2009. Carole was appointed, and served the state of California as a Voting member on the Governor’s Advisory (HAI)Hospital Acquired Infection committee for 9 years, and acted as Chairman of the Subcommittee for Public Reporting and Education representing 38+million California Consumers of healthcare. Carole initiates new legislative motions to improve quality care in hospitals and healthcare facilities in California and consults with many advovacies and health related educational facilities nationwide.
