God’s Law of Love

Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 13:10

This scripture indicates that when we show love for one another, we automatically fulfill the law. If we truly love, we will not do anything that is harmful to others. We will keep everything in right priority and become sensitive to the needs of others.

We Are Chosen

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."
John 15:16

At the time of our salvation, the emphasis is on our making a choice to serve the Lord. We go to the altar. We repent. We turn to Him. But as in the old adage that says the girl lets the boy chase her until she catches him, God had His eye on us long before we turned to Him. He chose us!

The Need for Salvation

...knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers...
1 Peter 1:18

The value of the human being can be inferred from the great price paid to redeem man (John 3:16; 1 Cor. 6:20). God the Son through whom the world was created, became flesh and died for the sins of humanity. That He willingly shed His blood and died for us reveals not only the value God places on the human personality, but also shows our desperate need of salvation.

Through Christ, believers are forgiven, reckoned to be righteous and renewed in the image of God. Fallen men and women can only produce the works of the flesh. Only the Spirit, by the New Birth, can renew and recover that which was destroyed by the Fall (John 3:5, 6).

To reach out highest potential, to have abundant life, to receive forgiveness and be free from condemnation, to live in communion with Father God, and to find renewed purpose for living, we must accept Jesus Christ by faith.

One Body

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12

The human body is an exquisite organism. Scientists cannot duplicate it or even fully understand it. It is a synthesis of many parts. Each member of the body relates to and depends upon other parts of the body, contributing to the welfare of the entire body.

The same is true of all believers as members of the body of Christ. We should function in Christ’s body as the parts of the human body function. Just as the amputation of a limb handicaps the entire body, there is no Christian brother whom we do not need. The Greek word translated “body” is related to the word meaning “to heal, preserve, be made whole.” This word clearly shows how our lives are inextricably woven together within the body of Christ and how our well-being depends upon the well-being of others (Rom. 14:7).

The Sacrifice of Praise

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
Hebrews 13:15

Why is praising God a sacrifice? The word “sacrifice” (Greek, "thusia") comes from the root thuo, a verb meaning “to kill or slaughter for a purpose.” Praise often requires that we “kill” our pride, fear, or sloth—anything that threatens to diminish or interfere with our worship of the Lord.

We also discover here the basis of all our praise: the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by Him, in Him, with Him, to Him, and for Him that we offer our sacrifice of praise to God. Praise will never be hindered when we keep its focus on Him, the Founder and Completer of our salvation.

Paul reminds us to “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service” (Rom. 12:1). Jesus’ cross, His blood, His love gift of life and forgiveness to us remind us to keep offering continual praise as a living sacrifice before the Lord!

Strength in Praise

“Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise’?”
Matthew 21:16

In response to the criticism leveled against the powerful praise given Him, Jesus quotes Psalm 8:2 and reminds us of a great secret. Perfected praise will produce strength! It is powerful!

Direction from the Lord

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV

This text gives a three-pronged course of action for guiding our children toward God’s plan for their lives.

First, they must trust in the Lord with all of their heart. That trust will be determined by how we have taught and how we lived out our own trust in Him. Our trust must be wholehearted, if we are to pass that characteristic on to the next generation.

Next, they cannot depend on their own understanding to figure out God’s way for their lives. God’s way cannot always be rationalized because His ways are higher than our ways (Is. 55:8, 9). Helping our children learn to hear God’s voice for themselves opens the door to trusting Him even when it doesn’t make sense.

Third, we must teach our children to acknowledge God in all they do. “Acknowledge” suggests that one should be fully aware of and in fellowship with the Lord.

The result will be sure direction. The word “direct” suggests that God will straighten out the path of His servants. That is what we want for ourselves and our children.

What Is the Hacienda?

After more than 25 years, the Hacienda remains committed to its foundational principle of “restoring men to useful lives”. It offers a proven program that gives men the tools to abandon violence and self-destruction and become productive members of family and society. A number of men come to the campus as an alternative to court-ordered sentencing or after release from prison or jail. Many are overcoming alcohol and other substance abuse, gang affiliations, domestic violence, and homelessness. Other participants have no criminal background, but come because they recognize their desperate need to alter their self-destructive patterns.

There is never any charge to participate in this program.

Men accepted into the program must exhibit a strong desire for positive change by committing themnselves to our one-year, live-in, supervised program (phase 1). Daily schedules include participation in chapel activities, hands-on job training, and other program curriculum and responsibilities. After completing phase 1, graduates may opt to enter phase 2 and remain on campus for assitance and accountability in securing employment, personal transportation, housing, financial counseling, maintaining compliance with probation, and general preparation for independent living.

The Hacienda is recognized by the Superior Courts and Probation Departments of Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties as a faith-based alternative sentencing program.
