In honor of our incredible friends and those diagnosed with Down Syndrome, we will be joining the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Georgia for their annual Buddy Walk!

Let’s Talk About Crawling ✨

Crawling is more than just a milestone — it plays an important role in early development. It helps babies and toddlers explore their bodies while also building essential higher-level skills, such as:

• Bilateral coordination
• Muscle strength and endurance
• Sensory processing
• Body awareness

When crawling is delayed or skipped, it can affect the development of these higher-level skills, potentially impacting things like handwriting, postural control, reflex integration, and attention!

A sweet graduation calls for a sweet ice cream party! 🍦

Today was a big day for this sweet friend - he graduated from feeding therapy with Mrs. Leighton & decided that the only way to celebrate was with a special treat! We are so proud of you buddy & can't wait to watch you continue to grow! ☀️

Sliding into the weekend like... 🤪

But seriously — what looks like a fun/silly activity is actually addressing postural control. Postural control is your body’s ability to stay balanced and stable in different positions & it's a foundation for everyday movement. Good postural control supports both gross motor skills (like standing and walking) and fine motor skills (like handwriting and precision).

Does your child struggle to stay upright in their seat? Have messy handwriting? Seem clumsy or fall more often than usual?
These could be signs of poor postural control — and addressing it can make a big difference! ☀️

👶 Did you know flat head (plagiocephaly) can often be treated without a cranial helmet?

This sweet baby started OT to improve his Plagiocephaly. With gentle therapy and parent-led positioning strategies, you can see the progress at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 3 months of treatment.

Plagiocephaly is very common in babies under 6 months because their skull bones are still soft and moldable. The good news? That also means it’s the best time to treat it. Early therapy can:
✨ Improve head shape naturally
✨ Support motor milestones (like rolling + sitting)
✨ Address any neck tightness (torticollis)
✨ Give parents easy strategies to use during daily routines

Many parents are told that a helmet is the only solution—but in many cases, OT can help correct flat spots before a helmet is ever needed.

👉 If your baby is under 6 months and you’ve noticed a flat spot or head-turning preference, reach out early. The sooner we start, the more effective treatment can be!

To wrap up Speech-Language-Hearing Month, we’re excited to introduce the newest member of our Speech Therapy team — meet Dylan!

Dylan earned his Master’s in Speech from Valdosta State University in 2017 and has been working with pediatrics ever since. He has experience with a wide variety of communication disorders, with particular interests in school-age language and articulation, fluency, and cleft palate/craniofacial conditions. Outside of work, Dylan enjoys spending time with his wife and baby boy, cooking, traveling, and playing the piano.

Dylan loves a good laugh and aims to make therapy fun. One of his favorite activities to use in sessions is the game Guess Who? — it’s a great way to address skills like logic and reasoning, comparing and contrasting, and formulating and answering questions.

We're excited to have Dylan on our team & can't wait for everyone to meet him! ☀️
