Three generations of Smith boys are at World Wide Technology Raceway, staring down Mother Nature, waiting for this rain to leave so we can start some racing!!

After 5 rounds of racing we made it down to the final 4 before getting a taste of our own medicine. Right after running dead on our dial in the fourth round (6.860 on a 6.86) our semifinal opponent dialed in 6.81 and put a 6.810 pass down the track. Still, the Old Man kept it interesting only losing the semifinal pass by a razor thin margin of 0.0092. A great day of racing all around. Mike Smith was a killer on the tree with one perfect light, two .007's and an all day average of .018. Great job Pops!

Smith Racing is at World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis for the NHRA.tv Challenge. The cool fall weather has the old man spry this morning. He kicked off time trials with a perfect .000 reaction time. Bring on the challengers.

This is one of our favorite events each year and 2018 did not disappoint. Driver Mike Smith burst through the gates to start the day with a .007 and a .002 reaction time on his first two passes. Casual observers might mistake such quickness for eagerness to be at the track for his favorite race. However his long time crew chief had a different explanation. "He changed the shocks. We've been to how many semi finals this year? How many finals? Hell, we've won races this season. Why would you change the suspension set up now? He was so good on the tree because he knew he would have to be if those shocks turned out like the hood change of 2011." Fortunately they did not. 5 round wins brought Smith Racing all the way to the quarter finals. Our 60ft, 330ft, and 594ft times were more consistent than they've ever been with this motor and Mike averaged an .012 r/t on the day. I'd say that is a pretty good weekend.
