We work hard to create consistent collaboration through trusted partners…referring our patients to providers who we would trust with our very own family members. When you’re a patient at Innate you ARE family 🩵
Collaboration isn’t optional—it's essential. Managing oral restrictions requires a team approach, where IBCLCs, SLPs, pediatricians, bodyworkers, and release providers all bring their expertise to the table.
Here are practical steps to improve referrals and outcomes:
1. Identify trusted professionals in your community.
Ask patients who else they’re seeing. Look for providers who are educated in oral restrictions and open to interdisciplinary care. Build a shortlist and reach out.
2. Open the conversation.
Send a short email or make a call:
“Hi, I’m working with families affected by tongue tie and I’d love to learn more about your approach so we can better support shared patients.”
3. Share records and respect roles.
With consent, share notes, feeding assessments, or pre/post-release plans. Clear communication builds trust and better outcomes—without stepping on anyone’s toes.
4. Create referral systems that are easy and clear.
Use handouts, email templates, or shared forms to streamline referrals. Consider co-hosting case reviews or lunch-and-learns to strengthen relationships.
5. Keep the child at the center.
Every provider brings a piece of the puzzle. When we work together, we move faster and more effectively toward helping babies feed, grow, and thrive.
