W sitting is a way for a child to have a base of support when sitting on the ground. By doing this, they are not engaging their core, which is essential for attention and learning. And it can have a negative orthopedic impact on hips and knees later in life. Use a chair! Or a bean bag! Or sit criss cross applesauce!

I feel so blessed that we have these opportunities to be near and in water together. My sensory avoidant children gain so much from the input of the water that I often find one or both of them playing in the lily pads. Here is my Evan just enjoying a peaceful moment.

May you all find your happiest place

🎆🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from Brodie-Wargo Vision & Sensory Therapy Center! 🇺🇸🎆

Today we’re taking a break from fidgets, fine motor fun, and sensory swings so our team can enjoy some red, white, and woohoo! 💥✨

Our center is closed today so our incredible therapists can celebrate with their families — running through sprinklers, grilling up good times, and recharging their superhero powers. 🦸‍♀️🧺🌭

We wish you a safe, joyful Independence Day filled with laughter, fireworks, and freedom to move, play, and connect! 🎇🧠💙

See you soon — we’ll be back tomorrow ready to regulate and celebrate with our amazing kiddos! 💪

Meet Errin Wells/Broadway, MA, CCC-SLP — one of our wonderful Speech Language Pathologists! Inspired by her nephew and her best friend’s children on the autism spectrum, Errin knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children and their families. Since earning her master’s in 2022, she’s focused on supporting kids with Childhood Apraxia and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her philosophy is simple but powerful: follow the child’s lead (within reason) and celebrate the small wins — because they add up in a big way!

Outside of therapy, Errin is a big fan of both books and movies, loves ice cream, and shares her home with her dog Roscoe and guinea pig Diamond. She once braved the Slingshot at Cedar Point and dreams of relaxing on a tropical island someday. Her best advice for families starting therapy? Don’t stress about how communication “should” look — just trust the process and lean into the home program. We’re so lucky to have her on our team! 💙

✨ Weekly success story! ✨

Spencer began occupational therapy with us last summer with goals to improve oculomotor control, binocularity (increase use of both eyes simultaneously), increase attention and primitive reflex integration.

When he was first assessed, he was unable to converge, visually track or attend to most assessments and treatments.

Our number one goal for Spencer? Build rapport. We wanted to make sure that he felt safe and relaxed coming to therapy to allow us to learn what he likes/dislikes to be able to use in treatments.

I will say the first few sessions resulted in meltdowns with Spencer having some difficulty adjusting to these changes and demands placed on him. This is a difficult adjustment for most people to come in to a new environment and have to change your mindset.

Quickly though, he became more comfortable coming to therapy and even said he loved it! He began following directions and trying new tasks that he would not have tried before! The best part?! He began to joke and show his creativity!

Flash forward to today, Spencer is now visually tracking, wearing his glasses consistently, he can converge and he is moved to trying new tasks that challenge his visual-motor systems in ways that would challenge one of our adult patients!

He has grown so much this past year and we are excited to see what he continues to do this next year!
