Yesterday, Bri and Melissa participated in the IARF Advocacy Day at the Capital in Springfield with other agencies and advocates. They joined CEO, Michelle Rich, and Horizon House Coordinators, Brittany and Brenda in meetings with Senators Arellano and Balkema to highlight the importance of prioritizing investments in the needs of Individuals with Developmental Disabilities in Illinois. 🇺🇲

We all face personal obstacles that feel insurmountable, no matter who we are. For Tommy, who has been with our Day Services for a few years, these barriers included a fear of loud noises, new experiences, and large groups. Preferring to keep to himself, Tommy previously shied away from community activities or even rides with others.

Thanks to the unwavering patience and creative approach of our staff, Tommy is breaking through. After years of gentle encouragement, Tommy recently requested to ride NCAT public transportation instead of relying on his parents. He is now confidently navigating stores, utilizing checkout, and truly enjoying these new experiences. We are incredibly proud of Tommy’s determination and cannot wait to see him continue to conquer his fears. 😊👏👏

Howdy!!! Week 2 at Cedar Creek Ranch. We spent time brushing Drake and reviewing what we learned last week. We are getting more familiar and comfortable with Drake. Today we worked on learning how to lead a horse. Another fun day of learning. 🐴🤠🧲
