Happy Monday! In this week's edition of the "Power 9 Series", we are spotlighting Downshifting. 😌

Stress leads to chronic inflammation, which is associated with every major age-related disease. But there are simple routines that can slow down your life, aka downshift, to shed stress.

Okinawans take a few moments each day to remember their ancestors, Adventists pray, Ikarians take a nap, and Sardinians spend time with friends and loved ones.

What is one way you can downshift this week? Share with us in the comments!

This week, we hosted an end of year Breakfast Social Hour, in partnership with Petaluma Community Relations Council (PCRC), for the wonderful community members and Partner Organizations who have been attending our regular gatherings throughout the year.

Every other month, we host a gathering with leaders of different nonprofits and similar organizations in town to learn, connect, and stimulate collaboration in the community.

We are grateful for all of these wonderful people, and the amazing work they are doing in our community!

⭐VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ⭐

Today we are highlighting the Laurie Morell in our volunteer spotlight! Laura volunteered to support our recent 10-week Outdoor Zumba Class in partnership with Petaluma River Park!

Laurie would arrive early each week, helping participants check in for the class and find their way from the parking area through the park to the class stage.

🙌Read these images to see Laurie answer a few questions about the benefits of volunteering, and what she took away from the experience.

Without community members like this, our community-driven initiatives would not be able to happen! We appreciate you Laurie!

TONIGHT! ⭐ We invite you to attend the Petaluma City Council, taking place at City Hall at 6:30pm. In this meeting you can provide public comment and show your support to help keep safer streets a community priority!

Blue Zones Project Petaluma applauds the City Council’s leadership on safer streets and the D Street Traffic Calming & Active Transportation Pilot.

This project aligns directly with both the City’s Active Transportation Plan and the Blue Zones Blueprint to build a connected, safe walking and biking network.

Prioritizing pedestrian and bike infrastructure strengthens community health, vibrancy, and long-term sustainability. We encourage you to show your support! 🚲

In this week's edition of our "Power 9 Series" , the healthy lifestyle habit to explore is the 80% Rule! 🥗

"Hara hachi bu" is the Okinawan, 2500-year old Confucian mantra said before meals to remind them to stop eating when their stomachs are 80% full.

Mindful eating (paying close attention to how your food feels and tastes) can help you stay more present and engage your senses during a meal. 😊

Do you think you can try practicing the 80% rule? Share with us in the comments!

Want to learn how to facilitate cooking and other healthy activities in town? Join us for a train-the-trainer workshop on Wednesday Nov 12, taught by the incredible Chef-K!

In this no cost, three hour session, participants will learn healthy recipes, techniques for small group cooking workshops, and more!

"Train the trainer" is a program that equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to teach a specific subject or skill to others in their organization or their community.

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning basic food skills and healthy recipe ideas, with an additional desire to bring these skills to the community by teaching at least two workshops of their own in the future.

Happy Monday! 😀 Welcome to our Monday "Power 9 Series", where for the next nine weeks we will share a simple yet powerful lifestyle habit you can implement into your day to live a healthy, long life. Today we begin with "Move Naturally" 🚶‍♀️

The world's longest-lived people don't obsess over intense gym workouts or running marathons. Instead, they live in environments that constantly nudge them into moving without thinking about it. They go on walks, grow gardens, and don't use mechanical conveniences for house and yard work.

Have an example of how you can Move Naturally this week? Share in the comments! ⭐
