Today is Autistic Pride Day!
I think today feels different to everyone, and whatever it means to you is totally valid.
Maybe life is a struggle at the moment, and you might be thinking, 'why should I be proud to be autistic? Everything is so hard!' and if you feel like that, I hear you.
As someone who has struggled most of my adult life in jobs, relationships, friendships, day-to-day things..... finding out I'm autistic and then going on to find a community has been absolutely life changing, and THAT is what I'm thinking about today.
Are you celebrating today? What does Autistic Pride mean to you?
(As always, no judgement, aggression etc here please. I would like to keep this as safe a space for everyone as possible).
[AUTISTIC PRIDE
-I can be proud of who I am. I do not need to be fixed or cured.
-Finding out I’m autistic changed my life and helped me to realise I’m not broken (even if I feel like it sometimes). I simply have a different neurotype.
-Sometimes I need support or accommodations and that’s ok.
-Finding other people I can relate to, and who relate to me has been life changing.
-Being autistic is who I am. Every part of me is entwined with being autistic.
-Being autistic comes with a lot of challenges in today’s world, but there are also many amazing things about being autistic.
-Every autistic person is unique, with our own strengths, passions, and talents.
-Let’s try to break stereotypes, smash discrimination, challenge stigma and make our voices heard!]
